Yay! We can now send and receive both OMEMO versions! It only took, like, three days to exchange basic text messages via #xmpp, using an already developed library. On the other hand, we now have a really solid base for...the nine billion other things we need to do. At some point I'm going to want interop testing volunteers who use conversations and gajim, because those clients aren't #accessible so I can't make sure they work. But that'll probably be in a few months. Also, TIL I learned that there's really no good C# library to do #PGP. So I'm not.

‘The nourishing soil of the soul’: The role of #HorticulturalTherapy in promoting well-being in community-dwelling people with #dementia #Gardening can help people with dementia feel more active, connected, and less lonely by improving their physical and mental well-being. The article highlights the need for more #Accessible gardening programs in the community to support social engagement and a better quality of life. Summary: "This article explores how gardening and nature-based activities can improve the well-being of people living with dementia, especially those in a long-term care community. Many individuals with dementia experience loneliness and a decline in their ability to engage in daily activities. Gardening offers a way to stay active, connect with nature, and interact with others. Which can help reduce stress, boost mood, and improve both physical and mental health. Despite strong evidence of its benefits in care homes, horticultural therapy is not widely used in community settings. The authors highlight the need for more opportunities for people with dementia to engage in gardening, as it can promote social connections and a sense of purpose. They argue that making gardens accessible and integrating horticultural therapy into community care programs could significantly improve quality of life. By encouraging outdoor activities, people with dementia may feel more included, confident, and independent in their daily lives." I would love a native, screenreader #accessible, fast, #matrix app for Windows. I would also like not to create it, because Matrix is even more vast, complex, and incomprehensible than #XMPP and #IRC. Anyone? No? Didn't think so. Sigh.

I’m a current @1password@1password.social subscriber, but given my recent difficulties using the application with the #JAWS screen-reader, I thought I’d give @bitwarden@fosstodon.org another shot, but that experience was even worse, due to the number of unlabeled buttons contained within the computer application. To that end, my question is: What’s everyone’s favorite?#Accessible #Cross-platform #PasswordManager that works across #Apple, #Windows & #Linux, specifically #Slint?

We have a new audio-based game! @ChanceyFleet@mas.to came up with an #Accessible version of air hockey for the web using the touch gesture API for mobile browsers, and I just ported it over to #iOS to take advantage of the Direct Touch feature of #VoiceOver. Introducing Audio Showdown, named after the Showdown game played by #Blind folks around the world. This is a link to our public beta which you can access through TestFlight, and we are ready to get more feedback after building it up to this current state! https://testflight.apple.com/join/Mn7ShZZk

Screen reader users using a free and open-source calendar app on Linux, what do you use? I'd like to use one as a reference to make GNOME Calendar more screen reader friendly. (Boost appreciated) #a11y #accessibility #accessible #GNOME #GNOMECalendar #Linux

LinkedIn. Your puzzles are not #accessible. This is why I haven't engaged with them. I rather like my puzzles every so often, but you rendered them impossible for me to complete. One wonders why a corporate social network where people develop a whole new language to fake it till you make it NEEDS a puzzle system, and I think a lot of people have that question because you can LITERALLY add the skill "puzzle solving" to your PROFESSIONAL LinkedIn Profile now. Guys ... this is just getting sad now. Please just pack it in.

🇮🇪 Iarnród Éireann will introduce a new Passenger Assistance Management System by the end of 2026 to improve travel for passengers who require assistance, including #disabled customers. Delivered by Transreport and available via an app, website and call centre, the platform will simplify assistance requests, improve communication between staff and passengers, and provide more consistent support across stations and connecting journeys. The first phase is due to go live in October 2026 before being rolled out across the network. The rail operator handled more than 65,000 assisted journeys over the past year, with demand continuing to rise. The system forms part of wider accessibility improvements, including station upgrades, reduced notice periods for booking assistance, staff training, #accessible facilities and the introduction of new DART+ #trains from 2027 with step-free boarding features. https://www.irishrail.ie/en-ie/news/new-assistance-platform-for-rail-customers-with-disabilities-to-launch-later-this-year

Hi fedi folk - It’s lovely to be here! I just moved from mastodon.social to sunny.garden and think it’s time for an #introduction. I’m Bearina, 30-something from Mannheim, Germany. I make #zines, #ArtistTradingCards and have become a #printmaker recently. I also got back into #photography a few days ago which was my first hobby. I got my first point and shoot camera when I was 12 and fell in love with it before that, using my parents camera and strolling through the neighborhood. I like seeing creativity around me and love to get inspired by other artists. #SciFi is my jam and I love movies in general. And bears! Lovely creatures. #DeGoogling right now! Also I’m working on relaunching my website and make it more #IndieWeb friendly and #accessible but also give it a bit more personality. I want to start a blog and share my thoughts. Which reminds me: Words are hard! I try my best but not always succeed. I’m so excited to meet new people! I toot in German and English. #neuhier

A specific example: A family member came to visit and even extended their stay a few days specifically to make my kitchen #accessible, as in #functional, for me. As mentioned, the kitchen has been my 'nerve-centre' for dealing with much of these past few years' cascade of #emergency issues that have been particularly hard on folks like me with no #HeatTolerance and also bonus #LungProblems during #ExtremeHeat and also #Wildfire events. Much of its floorspace was filled with the strata of attending to and doing my best to mitigate these urgent problems, even those that relate to #lease restrictions and #SocialHousing not choosing to upgrade units to meet this new reality. In many ways, this was not a big deal for me: I don't feel safe using the stove/oven (#balance and #tremour issues). My #arthritis doesn't handle preparing cold meat for microwave or toaster-oven cooking, so I eat frozen meals and graze from various pre-prepped options such as crackers. 20/x #accessibility #usability #workflow
