While #Mastodon isn’t bad, it still can’t beat good old fashioned #RSS for snippets of up to date #news from providers you choose. Am, pleasantly, surprised RSS feeds still exist as do some pretty good #feed readers.

Using RSS for subreddits is an interesting way to see just how many posts are deleted by moody mods for no apparent reason. Or how brigaded and manufactured fan subs are - lots of robust delusional echo chambers. Although the new rate limiting for RSS is atrocious. Here is a short demo video that showcases what you can do with Feedle. Suppose, you are interested in keeping up-to-date with creators in the #Rust programming community. You can:

  1. Search for a topic of interest. You can use boolean operators and other Google-like tricks to fine-tune your query.
  2. Grab the topic's #RSS feed and add to your reader.
  3. If you have a blog, you can even export an embed that you can then share with your own audience. Plus, don't forget to add your blog to Feedle!

Seit Jahren zahle ich tapfer mein #StZ-Plus-Abo der #StuttgarterZeitung. Was die jetzt aber mit ihrem Relaunch zum ersten Juli rausgehauen hat, ist wirklich schlimm. Selbst als Abonnent wird man mit Werbung bombardiert, die man nur durch Abschluss eines "Werbefrei-Passes" für zusätzliche 5€/Monat los wird. Die Navigation ist nur noch rudimentär vorhanden und die #RSS-Feeds wurden komplett entfernt. Habe ein detailliertes Mail an die Digital-Abteilung geschickt. Mal sehen, was passiert.

@MelissaBearTrix@gives.hugz.online i simply love #RSS, & wish that more sites still supported it. still, as you saw earlier, i have managed to curate a nice feedlist that i hope keeps me somewhat in touch, living deep under my rock in the ground as i do. for years i used various RSS addons in my ​:firefox_nightly:​ and ​:firefox:​ as my preferred rss mode, in my desktop & laptop pooters [i do not use my phone for any online stuff at all]. none of these though was ever fully satisfactory, each imposed various compromises on me. recently i decided to abandon all those frustrating browser AOs & change instead to the native RSS option baked into ​:thunderbird:​ [​:firefox_nightly:​ and ​:thunderbird:​ are the two apps that are always open on my desktop]. it eliminates some of those compromises, albeit sadly brings some of its own, alas, but overall i am enjoying this new RSS workflow. good luck & have fun with yours!!!
