Remember when I said my DR setup should have me back up in 20-30 minutes? Yeah. About that. Turns out a backup job can run clean every single night for months and still not actually be backing up what you think it is. So here's what I actually found out the hard way replacing nixos2's dying hardware. Nextcloud Updater:

Da ich bei meiner Homeserver-Nextcloud gerade das Update auf 34.0.2 vorgenommen habe: hier mal, wie einfach das ist

  1. im Admin-Bereich "Updater öffnen"
  2. dieser nimmt Wartungsmodus, Backup, Aufräumarbeiten usw. vor, auch den Download des Updates
  3. Bei den kleinen Versionssprüngen läuft die Nextcloud wieder noch ein paar Minuten

Bitwarden shipped a client update that requires Vaultwarden 1.37.0 — which also happens to close 8 medium-severity security advisories that don't even have CVEs assigned yet. Nixpkgs hasn't caught up. Stable currently points to 1.36.0. Personal Vault #001 – Bye Bye Windows Operation "Bye Bye Windows" has officially begun. 👋🪟 Today, an old HP desktop took its first step towards a new life. Windows is gone. Debian 13 (Trixie) is taking over. The end goal isn't just "running Linux." This machine is going to become Personal Vault – my own self-hosted platform for media, photos, documents, backups, and whatever else I decide to build along the way. I've used Windows for decades, so this is very much a learning journey. Expect mistakes, questions, and probably a few moments of wondering why Linux has seventeen different ways to do the same thing. Ich überlege, ob sich eine kleine Artikel-Serie zum Thema "digitale Aufgeräumtheit" lohnt. Im Zentrum würde die Dokumentenorganisation stehen (möglichst minimalistisch - alles hat seinen Platz). Dazu kämen Aspekte von NAS/Homeservern/Laufwerkfreigaben. Paperless-ngx Zusammenspiel mit Nextcloud. Backup-Strategien. Już od jakiegoś czasu streamuje sobie muzykę z mojego domowego serwerka zamiast korzystać ze spotifajów i innych takich. Szukając rozwiązań jak poszerzyć moją bibliotekę muzyczną trafiłem info, że najlepiej się sprawdza Lidarr + slskd + soularr. I bogowie to nie był dobry pomysł żeby to stawiać jako osoba początkująca w selfhostingu :D nie wiedziałem jak w ogóle działają te serwisy i przede wszystkim nie umiałem ich pospinać w dockerze. Ale po paru dniach walki udało się to zaprząc do działania i jestem z tego powodu cholernie dumny. Przy okazji nauczyłem się sporo o dockerze i paru innych rzeczach. #selfhosting #HomeServer #lidarr

Could an old mobile device (phone or tablet) be used as a home server, FreedomBox styles? Imagine it has a big internal storage and/or SDcard, and it's running a custom ROM (a Mobile GNU distro) intended for the purpose. Plus it's permanently plugged into power and connected to reliable WiFi. Is this something we could realistically repurpose old mobiles for if they don't support 4G calling? #SelfHosting #HomeServer #FreedomBox

I have used WD drives for years and even went through their warranty service before with no issues. This may all change now. I shipped them a drive about 2 months ago and am still struggling to get a replacement for my home server. Looks like they have given EVERYTHING to AI and can’t even fulfill the warranty. Need to find a 8TB drive now myself as I can’t rely on them. This is not good. #WesternDigital #SelfHosting #SelfHosted #HomeServer
