Federated protocols of the future should consider designing themselves so that even if they use DNS, it is not the foundation of their own identity system so they are not hopelessly bound to it. @dansup@mastodon.social has counted the landlords. That’s how it stands. 13 million profiles – who would have thought it? We can certainly be a little proud. Everyone has done their bit – some more, some less, each according to their ability. So now we have a huge, global, independent, federated network. It’s by no means the solution; the work is only just beginning. I’ve been involved right from the start. As I’m not a dev, I’m just a loudmouth. Hi @tchambers@indieweb.social @HolosSocial@mastodon.social @deadsuperhero@social.wedistribute.org, I fear that segregation doesn't foster #federated #diversity (the #fediverse). Isn't this about incompatibility? A scheme a browser like firefox can't make sense of by full intention? Where should that lead to, what's the vision behind it for the social web?

#diaspora service at poddery.com will be shut down after we ran it for 12 years. Joe Bivins ran it before we took over maintenance in 2013. Thanks to everyone who helped maintain it till now. Even though diaspora failed to get the adoption we hoped for, #mastodon is continuing the fight for #federated social media.
