I'm staying in the historic village of Hurstpierpoint and went for a walk along their heritage trail today*

  1. Lamb House - early 19C - first a coaching inn then a beer inn
  2. Very old cottages which were originally catalogued in 16C
  3. The Poacher Inn - originally known as The Cricketers and then The Queen's Head
  4. Players Theatre - built as a chapel in 1817 and became the National School in 1819
  • because who doesn't love waking up at the crack of dawn the morning after a concert?

🇫🇷 Aux pieds du château d'Andernach et des murs d'enceintes historique, on trouve un jardin de fruits et légumes et il est autorisé de cueillir, c'est le principe de la ville comestible. (Essbare Stadt). 🇬🇧 At the foot of Andernach Castle and the historic surrounding walls, there is a fruit and vegetable garden and it is allowed to pick them, this is the principle of the edible city. 🧵Dalton Mills, Keighley. Built in the 1860s it was once one of the largest textile mills in Yorkshire. Sadly, it was destroyed by fire in 2022. #Victorian #Yorkshire #Heritage #Photography #Textiles #Industry #History

His pitch: women don't really want to compete anyway — more toward "cheerleading, dance, yoga, hiking clubs." That's the quiet part at a normal indoor volume. It's the exact argument the anti-suffragists used in 1910: the little ladies don't want the vote, bless them. Same hymnal. Same water stains. Better funding. https://twp.ai/4hsmT7 #TitleIX #Heritage #Project2025 #TransRights #Feminism #News #Journalism #Trans #LGBTQ #Resist #Solidarity #Democracy

A Heritage Foundation man named Scott Yenor sat down — barely a week after the Court shoved trans girls off the field — and wrote out loud that the goal was never the trans kids at all. It was Title IX. All of it. Fifty years of sex-discrimination law women bled to build. 🧵 #TitleIX #Heritage #Project2025 #TransRights #Feminism #News #Journalism #Trans #LGBTQ #Resist #Solidarity #Democracy

💛 A pretty yellow hallway inside an abandoned entertainment venue in Hungary. Over the years it has been a hotel, restaurant, ballroom and cinema. Now it is undergoing renovation. #Hungary #History #AbandonedPlaces #Heritage #Renovation #LostPlaces

🇬🇧 Some views from the Podwalk (story-telling walk) through Brussels in the Burgundian period. I'll write soon a new blog entry about it. The podwalk is available via the VRT Podwalk app and is available in French, Dutch and English. We learn a lot about Brussels, even in places we think we know. #citywalk #Podwalk #BaladeUrbaine #architecture #patrimoine #heritage

Just dropped into the media inbox. Thought I'd share. ------------------------------------- MV Beardmore cruises onto NSW State Heritage Register Images available here: https://bit.ly/4xJB049 MV Beardmore, the only surviving timber river tugboat in NSW from the 20th century, has been added to the State Heritage Register. The listing celebrates its role in the prosperity of the Northern Rivers region and its importance as a symbol of enterprise for local Aboriginal communities. Built in 1914, MV Beardmore was used for collecting, towing and delivering cane along the Clarence River. The vessel played a critical role in settlement, agriculture and industry in northern NSW, helping cement the Clarence River as the heart of the state’s sugar industry for over 150 years. It was built and used by the Colonial Sugar Refining Company (known as CSR), one of Australia’s oldest companies, and served the Harwood Sugar Mill, the longest continuously operating mill in NSW. In 1975, ownership of the MV Beardmore was transferred to the Nungera Aboriginal Cooperative. It was commercially operated by the community-led organisation throughout the late 1970s and the 1980s, supporting the aspirations of the local Yaegl people. To this day, the MV Beardmore remains a powerful symbol of Aboriginal enterprise, resilience and community leadership. Now retired, the tugboat remains housed at Harwood Sugar Mill, an enduring icon of connection, history and identity for local communities. NSW DCCEEW, Executive Director for Heritage, Shane Eccleston said: “The MV Beardmore is so much more than a boat. It’s a relic from one of the most iconic industrial periods in NSW, as well as a symbol of shared history and community pride. “To have a working timber tugboat from this era, one imbued with such a rich history, is extremely rare. “I am absolutely delighted that the MV Beardmore’s significance will now be officially recognised through a state heritage listing, and to know it will be preserved for generations to come.” #History #Heritage

📌George Barnsley & Sons' Cornish Works, Sheffiled. This abandoned toolmakers' factory made tools for shoemakers and the leather industry. Cheaper imports and mass production forced its closure in 2003. Upper floors feature wooden storage racks that still display original chalk markings and stock notes. https://www.obsidianurbexphotography.com/industrial/george-barnsley-sons-cornish-works-sheffield-england/ #Sheffield #Industrial #Abandoned #Heritage #History #Victorian
