This short walk on #Yorkshire’s coast, which may benefit from onshore breezes, takes you from the pretty village of Runswick Bay which is a joy to wander around to Kettleness Hamlet. Easy return via the Cinder Track old railway route. ⚠️ NEW WORK ⚠️ Welcome to north England's ONLY chalk coastline: Flamborough Head and Bempton Cliffs. Last time I visited this area was 2015, so I was WAY overdue a revisit. Pretty lovely, eh? There's plenty more photos from this day, just head hither -> https://www.iancylkowski.com/posts/flamborough-east-riding-yorkshire-summer/ 👍️ #landscape #landscapephotography #summer #nature #travel #flamboroughhead #bemptoncliffs #chalk #uk #britain #england #yorkshire

Bonus fact: the moor's part of Rombalds Moor, home to one of Europe's richest Bronze Age rock carving sites. How'd you spend Yorkshire Day? #outdoors #yorkshire #yorkshireday #summer #heather #ilkley #ilkleymoor #uk #britain #england #nature #landscape

I used to think that the access down into the lovely North Yorkshire coastal village of Staithes was a bit steep, where local gradients average around 5.4% to 5.8% over long stretches and a few much steeper short sections. Then I visited Robin Hood's Bay and encountered gradients on the main bank reaching 30% (or 1-in-3 in old money). Safe to say, I'll probably need a really good reason to visit Robin Hood's again! Looking down onto Staithes from this vantage point, you can see the watercourse of Staithes Beck, pictured here at low tide. Interestingly, the stream divides the village in more ways than one with those living on the northside in the unitary authority of Redcar and Cleveland, while those on the south side are part of the unitary authority of North Yorkshire! #northyorkshire #yorkshire #staithes #coast #july #summer #seaside #landscape #photography

🧵Dalton Mills, Keighley. Built in the 1860s it was once one of the largest textile mills in Yorkshire. Sadly, it was destroyed by fire in 2022. #Victorian #Yorkshire #Heritage #Photography #Textiles #Industry #History

#Wressle #EastRiding #Yorkshire #England Campaigners have criticised another oil operator for a “flawed assessment” of the climate impact of drilling and production plans. Methods used in an application for expansion of the Wressle oil field in North Lincolnshire have been condemned in a public consultation as “unscientific wishful thinking” and of failing to comply with the latest guidance. Objectors have said the Wressle scheme should be refused planning permission https://drillordrop.com/2026/07/24/second-oil-expansion-plan-accused-of-defective-climate-assessment/

#York #Yorkshire #England “If we can put solar panels on our roof, this internationally famous building - we hope it will inspire others to challenge people who are saying no. And say: ‘If York Minster can do it, anybody can do it?’” Now, York Minster has 184 solar panels on its roof generating a third of its power. These will pay themselves off within eight years, so for the next 22 years of their lifecycle the church will be getting free electricity https://archive.ph/U8wfN #climate

[2/2] After ~6km/ 2h on trail we reached Keld, the highest village in Swaledale. After 🍦 we began climbing Kisdon via Corpse Road when we spotted our flora small of the day: native flowering succulent Sedum acre | the goldmoss stonecrop (📷1). Elevated views from near the Kisdon summit offered a sense of landscape scale (📷2) & served as a stage for the ground-based & aerial antics of avian fauna of the day, Vanellus vanellus | the northern lapwing (📷3). We descended towards Muker (📷4) & returned to pitch: a 12km/ 4h loop. 🇬🇧 #uk #england #yorkshire 🚀 #travel 🚐 #camperVan #nomad #roadTrip #vanLife 🥾 #hiking #nature #nationalPark

Dalton Mills, Keighley. A beautiful abandoned Victorian textile mill in West Yorkshire. I had the privilege of exploring and documenting this historical place a few years ago. Sadly, a huge fire destroyed it in 2022. #Yorkshire #History #Heritage #Abandoned #Photography #Explore #Mill #Industry #Decay

#HebdenBridge is the #LGBTQ capital of the Pennines. Former industrial hellbole transformed into mecca of inclusive creativity. But 7 miles west in #Cornholme, some wannabe #ChristianTaliban doesn't approve. I totally agree with Sally Wainwright about the beauty of writing that is grounded in a place, rather than bland & generic to make it easier to market. https://www.ft.com/content/7792625d-ff25-45c2-818a-3a797eb3beed #SallyWainwright #HappyValley #GentlemanJack #LastTangoInHalifax #Yorkshire #NorthernEngland #TVdrama

I'm at a writer's retreat. When I arrived, we were offered fruit cake and cheese, which seems to be a very Yorkshire delicacy. So I'm curious. Have you ever had fruit cake & cheese? "Yorkshire connection" could mean that you were in Yorkshire at the time, or you have family from Yorkshire, etc. #Yorkshire #food

Behind every journey on #Supertram in South #Yorkshire is the work of the Presentation Team, which maintains trams, stops, shelters and #infrastructure to keep the network safe and welcoming. Alongside routine duties, the team carries out periodic deep cleans. Recently, a Siemens tram underwent a two-day programme in the workshop, beginning with a detailed inspection and structured plan to avoid service disruption. Specialist equipment, including new chewing gum removal machinery, was used to tackle hard-to-reach areas. Overhead panels and signage were removed and cleaned, seat bases dismantled, stair edging resealed, and floors, cab and exterior thoroughly treated. The project brought together engineering and facilities staff, with Managing Director Sean English joining the work. It forms part of an ongoing programme to maintain standards across the 30-year-old fleet ahead of new trams expected in 2030, subject to funding, alongside wider stop refurbishments. https://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/en-gb/news/supertram-presentation-team
