I used to think that the access down into the lovely North Yorkshire coastal village of Staithes was a bit steep, where local gradients average around 5.4% to 5.8% over long stretches and a few much steeper short sections. Then I visited Robin Hood's Bay and encountered gradients on the main bank reaching 30% (or 1-in-3 in old money). Safe to say, I'll probably need a really good reason to visit Robin Hood's again! Looking down onto Staithes from this vantage point, you can see the watercourse of Staithes Beck, pictured here at low tide.
