The Ritz Cinema, England The glitz and glamour of the Ritz Cinema glory days are long gone; this once-impressive Art Deco building was abandoned many years ago. #Photography #Urbex #UrbanExploration #AbandonedPlaces #Photographer

Dublin has a supermarket built inside a medieval townhouse; you can see the ruins through Plexiglas panels in the floor while you shop for groceries. There's also a giant orange diving bell from the docks you can climb inside for free. My favorite free activity, though, is a self-guided scavenger hunt for Dublin's colorful Georgian doors. Ferme 1881, Belgium. One of the first abandoned houses I explored on my very first road trip on the other side of The Channel. Many years ago, but I still remember walking through the door like it was yesterday 🥰 #Photography #UrbanExploration #Timecapsule #Abandoned #LostPlaces #Explore

🆕🏭🇧🇪 A gigantic abandoned ironworks, once these rusting ruins stood on the south bank of the Meuse River in Liège, Belgium. Enormous steel frames, pipe networks, and industrial conveyors surround a 60m-tall blast furnace. The facility operated as a production hub for liquid pig iron until its closure in 2011. Now, almost all of it has been demolished as the site fades into history. Full feature live Sunday, 8 pm (UK) #Abandoned #Belgium #History #Photography #Industry #Urbex #UrbanExploration

It's 106 miles to Chicago; we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes; it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses. 🚃An old abandoned funicular railway, somewhere in northern Italy. This tramway ran until the late 1970s, ferrying tourists between the picturesque lakeshore and the hotels and restaurants at the top of the mountain. 🎳 An abandoned kegelbahn nine-pin bowling alley in East Germany. It closed in the late 1980s. Today, the wooden floor rots and splinters. Sapling trees have found a cosy home in the old lanes. #EastGermany #History #Bowling #Abandoned #Urbex #UrbanExploration

No. 46 in my photo collection of signs of unique Spanish-language business names ending in 𝗲𝗿í𝗮: DISQUERÍA Broadly, "disco" in Spanish means "disc" or "disk" in English, including specifically an audio/video disc, vinyl record, etc., with a "disquería" being a store selling such products. Note that the 𝗰 in "disco" has changed to 𝗾𝘂 in the process of adding the 𝗲𝗿í𝗮 suffix. In Spanish, as in English, a 𝗰 followed by an 𝗮, 𝗼, or 𝘂 has a hard "k" sound while a 𝗰 followed by an 𝗲 or 𝗶 has a soft "s" sound. The last letter of the root word is dropped before adding the 𝗲𝗿í𝗮 suffix, so in this case we'd end up with "discería." But this would cause the 𝗰 to undergo a change in pronunciation from a hard to soft sound. In Spanish, a word's original pronunciation must be maintained during conjugation or when adding a suffix, so the 𝗰 must be changed to 𝗾𝘂 to maintain a hard "k" sound, giving us "disquería."
