The last few months were very eventful personally and I've only published the weekly news series and some articles. Now that many of the happenings are over, I have more time for the project and will (hopefully) announce a new addition very soon.

I was asked many times over the last years which Linux distribution I would recommend for beginners. I always answered that they should try out multiple ones and choose the one that they like the most.

Today I've stumbled across old screenshots from my distro hopping adventures I made 4-6 years ago and remembered when I first learned about the differences between distributions and also between Linux and BSD.
Here are two of them that I've made from two i3wm setups, one on FreeBSD and one on Gentoo.

As some of you might know, Google plans to control the way of getting applications on Android starting in September 2026 by forcing developers to pay a fee and provide government identification documents. That would mean that most of the FOSS apps out there that can be downloaded from Accrescent, Obtainium, F-Droid, IzzyOnDroid and whatever else won't be installable anymore.
Althought Google announced to allow sideloading further, their statement didn't changed until now.
"Starting in September 2026, Android will require all apps to be registered by verified developers in order to be installed on certified Android devices"

We can only hope that Google change that and/or allow sideloading further for "advanced" users whatever "advanced users" are (I'm ok with clicking three popups and the "are you seriously sure" button)
