The new tram project in Lausanne and Renens promises to bring significant momentum to the city center. It offers an eco friendly way to travel and commute. However, it is concerning that the tram tracks are surrounded by concrete. Basel has demonstrated a more sustainable approach by planting grass between the rails, which not only looks beautiful but also likely helps reduce the urban heat island effect. It is hoped that Lausanne will consider similar green initiatives in its future projects. #PublicTransport #Sustainability #Lausanne

The first passenger run of the new G class tram today. And what a morning! Starting at Essendon Depot there was a media conference and gathering of politicians, project staff, drivers and many others to celebrate the big day. The first new tram class for Melbourne since the E class, these medium capacity trams will initially run on the route 59, followed by the 57 and 82. We rode it down to Flinders Street before it turned back to head up to Essendon Depot. It performed admirably and will be a great addition to the network. #Melbourne #Trams #MelbourneTrams #PublicTransport #Transit

Łódź, Cmentarz Ogrodowa. Kolejne ujęcie z bardzo małym tramwajem, ale tym razem nie bez powodu. Jak widać, tramwaj tu kończy - ale tory idą dalej. Jeszcze przez kilometr, do nieczynnej obecnie krańcówki Koziny. "Obecnie" trwa już ładnych parę lat. W ogóle trasa na Koziny nie miała szczęścia, bo odkąd interesuję się komunikacją, należała do najczęściej zawieszanych w mieście. Wielkorotnie rozważano też jej likwidację - bo to taki krótki cycek przy całej sieci, niepołączony z niczym od lat 70., kiedy to przy budowie niegdysiejszej obwodnicy (alei Włókniarzy) odcięto go od drugiej strony, uniemożliwiając dalszą jazdę na północ. I tak to sobie gniło i się degenerowało, chociaż na końcu znajduje się średniej wielkości osiedle. W końcu zgniło do tego stopnia, że ostatecznie trasę zamknięto - ale przy okazji odbudowy centrum przywrócono ogryzek do kompleksu zabytkowych cmentarzy, wracając tym samym do stanu z...1903 roku (ta trasa była jednym z pierwszych rozszerzeń łódzkiej sieci tramwajowej). Onecnie jesteśmy na etapie, gdzie przynajmniej na papierze dalsza część na Koziny ma być odtworzona, razem z odbudową skrętu we Włókniarzy. Czas jednak leci, a miasto czeka na dewelopera, który przy okazji budowy kompleksu bloków rozdupcył w jednym miejscu podbudowę torowiska. Coś mi mówi, że jeszcze poczekamy... #komunikacjamiejska #tramwaj #lodz #publictransport

I dusted off an old idea to show duration for walking segments of public transit itineraries that I played with a year or so back. Dzień powitamy z najmniej optymistyczną linią w aglomeracji łódzkiej, czającą się za winklem :) #komunikacjawlodzi #autobus #publictransport #mpklodz Wyjaśnienie: Kilka lat temu zaadaptowano w Łodzi wariację śląsko-zagłębiowskiego systemu oznaczania pętli, w formie osiedle+ulica (tam, gdzie to ma sens). Tak się złożyło, że mamy osiedle Doły, a na nim ulicę Smutną, przy której są cmentarze, areszt śledczy... i do niedawna WORD.
