The #Danube is experiencing a historic #drought throughout Central Europe. As somebody living walking distance from its banks in #Budapest I went to investigate - and document. This is a story of something both very local and global - effecting millions of people in different ways. On one hand, watersports and fishing have become impossible for locals (and river fauna lost their habitat). On the other hand, several nuclear plants had to be shut down due to insufficient amount of cooling water transported there by this mighty river, and water tables falling drastically along its banks are causing crop failures in an astronomical scale. Most of this is not mentioned directly in the video, but it’s all there in the dry riverbed, the dead mussels, the stranded canoes. https://youtu.be/ieqVxTSrDNM #Haros #island #youtube #iPhone #video #nature #ClimateChange #climate #Europe #Hungary

Santorini had been on my photography bucket list for years. Even though I wasn't feeling my best that morning, there was no way I was leaving without capturing those iconic blue domes overlooking the Aegean Sea. Some moments are worth pushing through for. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/santorini-blue-dome-and-bell-tower-rebecca-herranen.html #greece #architecture #travel #fineartphotography #art #buyintoart #art #europe #culture #island #wallart #decor #greekislands

Good #morning to readers. #Oil #prices are at $72.12 per #barrel (-1% compared to pre-war) For Nader, #Hormuz #island was one of the few places in #Iran where you could wild #camp, #dance under the #stars and almost feel #free. Mushroom Rocks, Guam 🇬🇺 A short hike down the beach leads to an iconic site of two rocks being slowly eroded at their bases in a shallow lagoon. Schifani: “Sicily is no longer Cinderella.” Economic growth and investments. To the young people I say: have faith in Sicily and stay. This is the appeal of the President of the Region of Sicily, Renato Schifani, in an interview with Livesicilia.it, in which he draws up a balance of the government’s action and looks ahead to the last years of the legislature with tones of optimism and claiming of the results achieved. According to the governor, the Island has already closed the most critical phase: “This Sicily is no longer Cinderella of Italy,” he says, emphasizing that the main economic indicators would show a significant growth. Among the data cited by Schifani are a surplus of around five billion euros and a constant increase in tax revenues. Support for the regional government’s line also refers to Svimez surveys, which highlight for Sicily a GDP growth of 9.9% in the 2021-2024 period and an increase in employment of 13.5%, higher than the national average, with over 30,000 new jobs in the industrial sector alone. However, the President of the Region invites caution: “Recognizing that Sicily is growing does not mean complacency. The real goal is to transform statistics into quality of life.” Youth and work: incentives and the return of talent #Sicily #Cinderella #theRegionofSicily #RenatoSchifani #Livesiciliait #Island #Italy #Schifani https://www.sicilianews24.it/schifani-la-sicilia-non-e-piu-cenerentola-crescita-economica-e-investimenti-828276.html

Minors and crime in Sicily: robberies and criminal associations are falling, but the alarm about the mafia is growing. The “ (Dis)armed” report by Save the Children analyzes the first half of 2025: in the Island, the incidence of minors involved in mafia associations is the highest in Italy. In Sicily, the number of minors reported for crimes such as robbery and association with the intent to commit crimes decreases, but concern grows about the involvement of young people in mafia organizations. This is what emerges from the “(Dis)armed” report by Save the Children, carried out with the support of the Fondazione Iris Ceramica Group Ets and released today, which analyzes data relating to the first half of 2025. Nationally, in the first six months of the year, 46 minors were denounced or arrested for mafia-type association, a figure that could indicate an increase compared to 2024, when the number of cases recorded throughout the year was 49. Of these, almost half are concentrated in Catania (15) and Naples (6). Palermo, Catania, and Messina: Crime Trends The article “Minors and Crime in Sicily: Robbery and Association with the Intent to Commit Crimes Decline, but the Alarm over the Mafia Grows” appears to be the first on Sicilianews24.it. #Sicily #SavetheChildren #Island #Italy #Catania #Naples #Palermo #Messina:CrimeTrends #MinorsandCrime #Alarm #first https://www.sicilianews24.it/minori-e-criminalita-in-sicilia-calano-rapine-e-associazione-per-delinquere-ma-cresce-lallarme-mafia-822889.html

Cyclone Harry, Region allocates another €18 million to affected businesses. The Sicilian Region is making available further 18 million euros to support businesses damaged by Cyclone Harry, which struck several areas of the Island last January. The measure, announced by Regional President Renato Schifani, was approved by the regional government thanks to savings and returns from the Sicily Fund, which allow for the establishment of a new ceiling dedicated to aid for companies. The draft decree prepared by the Regional Department of Economy provides for concessional interest rate financing accompanied by a non-repayable contribution of 40% of the eligible investment. The costs to be financed also include those for capital expenditures necessary to restore the full functionality of productive activities.
