The #Danube is experiencing a historic #drought throughout Central Europe. As somebody living walking distance from its banks in #Budapest I went to investigate - and document.
This is a story of something both very local and global - effecting millions of people in different ways.
On one hand, watersports and fishing have become impossible for locals (and river fauna lost their habitat).
On the other hand, several nuclear plants had to be shut down due to insufficient amount of cooling water transported there by this mighty river, and water tables falling drastically along its banks are causing crop failures in an astronomical scale.
Most of this is not mentioned directly in the video, but it’s all there in the dry riverbed, the dead mussels, the stranded canoes.
