Acmispon prostratus (Beach Lotus, Nutall's Acmispon) is a rare California native plant in the pea family (Fabaceae) that is threatened and endangered due to habitat lost to coastal development. Imagine my excitement when I unexpectedly found it growing in a coastal dune restoration area! #NaturePhotography #CloseUp #BloomScrolling #NativePlants #RarePlants #Plants #California #SanDiego #CANativePlants #Florespondence #Yellow #Herbs #Lotus #Threatened #Endangered #Photography #Conservation

Non-native Centaurea melitensis (Tocalote or Maltese Star Thistle), an annual herb native to the Mediterranean region of Europe and Africa. Interestingly, this plant is considered rare on the Maltese islands. Photographed at the Manchester Preserve, Encinitas, California. https://photos.alex-kunz.com/-/galleries/photo-archive/plant-archives/introduced-plants-in-san-diego-county/-/medias/019fa004-7a3a-7379-b8d4-5910246f2bce #NaturePhotography #BloomScrolling #Flowers #Florespondence #CloseUp #Herbs #Malta #California #SanDiego

Saxifrage. The little rock-breaker — lus nan cluas in some of the old tongues, its name straight from the Latin for stone-breaker, because it roots in the cracks of granite and holds. Tear the young leaves small into a bowl of warm broth. No boiling — that cooks the life right out of it. Cool water, torn leaves, a few minutes in the warm bowl. That bright green astringency is medicine for a throat the smoke and the crying roughed up. Something that lives in stone, teaching the throat to hold. That's the season on the plate. What do you reach for when your throat's had a week? Solanum americanum (American Black, Common, Small Flowered or White Nightshade) is an herb in the nightshade family (Solanaceae) that can be annual or perennial. Photographed near Ramona in San Diego County, California in May 2022. The two common names American Black Nightshade and White Nightshade might contradict each other. However, the "black" refers to the ripe fruit (a berry, unripe it is green), and the "white" refers to the flower itself. #Wildflowers #BloomScrolling #NaturePhotography #CloseUp #Florespondence #SanDiego #California #NativePlants #MacroPhotography #Macro #Nature #Flowers #Plants #Herbs

Chasteberry. One teaspoon dried, covered pot, fifteen minutes simmering, ten more off the heat. Peppery, faintly bitter, more broth than tea. The old remedy for hormonal weather — the cycle that arrives sideways, the perimenopausal months that feel like being renovated from the inside. #Herbalism #PlantMedicine #FolkMedicine #Chasteberry #Vitex #Apothecary #Herbs #Perimenopause #HormoneHealth #Druid #Pagan #EarthBased 1/2

It works on the pituitary's schedule, not yours. Three cycles before you judge it. And if you're on HRT of any kind, tell your prescriber first — chasteberry has opinions about prolactin. #3GoodThings

  1. Fit 2 loads of laundry on the backyard clothesline; I am the ruler of linear space

  2. Picked a tiny amount of chamomile flowers, less than for a cup of tea, but it's my first time successfully growing any

  3. New neighbour texted for advice about making lavender oil, and I got to deliver a little care pack with the tail end of my last batch plus a zine about how to make her own 💜

I just discovered that herb scissors exist and they are literally life changing. Just chopped up a bunch of chives in like two minutes. #herbs #gardening #harvest

The little heart-notch clover at the wood's edge tastes like rain made edible. Wood sorrel — seamsag in the old tongue. Pinch a few leaves in the damp shade and taste that clean, sour, lemon-bright snap. Scatter it raw over a salad or float it on cold soup just before serving. It's real vitamin C and a taste like nothing you can buy. One word of respect: it's sharp with oxalic acid, so keep it a bright accent, a handful, never a whole bowl. The wilted rosemary in your fridge is eight dollars of seasoning you were about to compost. Strip the woody past-their-prime herbs — rosemary, thyme, sage — and pulse them with coarse salt until green and fragrant. Spread on a plate to dry overnight. Ten minutes of work. A jar of something the co-op charges for, made from the scraps. The dignity of a kitchen where nothing is wasted. What's wilting in your fridge right now that could still become something? https://twp.ai/4hth9n #HerbSalt #Frugal #ZeroWaste #Cooking #Herbs #Kitchen #FoodAsMedicine #Sovereignty #Photography #Homestead #Nature #SlowLiving #DIY #Apothecary

The jaw you've clenched since November has a plant that answers it. Bruise a scant teaspoon of culinary lavender between your fingers and steep it three minutes — no longer, or it turns to soap — in warm milk before bed. Lus na tùise, the herb of fragrance. The calm isn't folklore; it's linalool, easing the nervous system down off the ledge. #Herbalism #Herbs #Lavender #Wellness #NervousSystem #Rest #SelfCare #Botanical #Nature #QueerWitch #Druid #Apothecary

Grow your own chives! 🌱 Easy to grow, perfect for adding mild oniony flavor to eggs, potatoes, & salads. Good companion for carrots, tomatoes, lettuce & strawberries. Snip what you need – they regrow fast! Harvest from the outside to encourage continuous growth. #Chives #GardeningTips #Herbs

Cold sesame-cabbage crunch (8 things, feeds 4, under 10 min, no beans) → shred half a green cabbage and two carrots; whisk tahini, soy, a squeeze of lime, a little honey, some cold soaked noodles even and hot water to loosen; toss, top with whatever nuts or seeds are in the drawer. It costs pocket change and asks nothing of the oven. No one at your table goes hungry because the week tried to break you. https://twp.ai/4htDJ9 #FoodAsMedicine #QueerKitchen#CheapEats #SummerFood #Cooking #SelfCare #Apothecary #Herbs #Recipe #Food #TransKitchen
