Went to a comic con today with Alice. As per usual, she had a blast. #downSyndrome #parenting #cosplay
This is a picture of Alice and her friend Mercy at camp. Alice has gone to this camp for the last 4 or 5 years and has a blast every time. This year was even better. #downSyndrome #disability #parenting

Soy sauce? Chances are gluten. French fries sounds good except unless they have a dedicated fryer that is GF and fries that don't have a coating to make them crispy.

For my family, I browned some Cuban chorizo and mixed in some scrambled eggs with the veg.
I wasn't watching my daughter closely enough when she was setting up the dishwasher and caught her after she filled the rinse aid compartment with dish soap (not detergent). I spent the next hour cleaning it out. #parenting #downSyndrome #dadstuff

@wat@mstdn.social the prevelance of celiac in Down syndrome is way higher than the general population. I attended a talk given by a doctor who specializes in patients with DS targeted towards doctors and they listed a schedule of tests that aren't typically done in the GP and celiac was one that came up positive.

Over time she's grown to understand that there are things that she shouldn't eat and that if she does she gets a nasty rash. Who knows what happens to her digestive tract.
Too, we're also in a golden age of GF foods both in terms of shopping and restaurants, but you still need to be careful.

It used to be worse because Alice is perfectly capable of reading a menu and she perseverates when she really wants something so orchestrating a change in direction is like steering a cruise ship.

I have a #cosplay contest in 13 days. I am not finished yet. Yesterday I made a mistake cutting out pieces and made a mistake in that pieces A and B needed 4 each and piece C needed 2. Guess who f'ed that up? Yeah.

Way back in 1984 there was an episode of Tales from the Darkside called "A Case of the Stubborns" which was about a grandfather who refused to accept that he was dead. Eventually, one of his grandkids puts a lot of pepper in a napkin for him which causes his grandfather to sneeze off his nose and accept that he's dead.

Sewing on eyelets. Like many repetitive tasks, it's best to serialize individual bits. I spent an evening making Individual Stringettes* Now I'm doing the same task to sew in each end. #sewing #making #crafting #cosplay
