Back in college, my buddy said in early summer you can hear the corn grow. It shoots up so fast it squeaks. I said BS.
So one night we thrashed our way into a big fleld, far from the road where it was quiet, and knelt down to listen.
And he was right!
But we failed to note how we got there. Wandered through that maze of maize in the dark for hours before stumbling out a half mile down the road, – scared, sweaty, dirty, and tired.
That was a good night.

I first went to Venice in 1972 by train. It was late when we went down the Grand Canal and out to the Youth Hostel. I soon fell asleep on a top bunk with a shutttered window within arm’s reach….
…..When I woke it was dawn. I opened the shutter to a grey mist. Over the next twenty minutes the view of Venice appeared. I didn’t take a photograph but I committed the scene to memory. Back in London I found this:

I had a ThinkPad T15 Gen 1 that I was going to get ready for a customer. It was behaving a bit weird. Odd crash. So I tested the memory. The soldered memory was going bad.
So far total loss on that hardware. I may end up parting it out or waiting to buy a replacement motherboard... but that replacement motherboard will also have soldered memory.
I have largely switched to the ThinkPad L series, as they have two memory slots and no memory soldered to the board.

Back around 1993, when I wanted to run #linux at home, I had to double the memory of my system from 4MB to 8MB. Yes, MEGABytes. 😇
It cost me 100UKP for the extra stick, so I could run Slackware 2 efficiently and work from home, to interface with the University Unix system.
So, the price came down… over time… but today’s silly artificially inflated prices? No thanks.
