Minulla on hiukan ongelmia Taheref Mafin Shatter Me: Uusi valtakunta -sarjan aloituskirjan, Katso minua, kanssa. Tämä nuortenkirjaksi ja romantiikaksi luokiteltu dystopia on aluksi melkoisen tuju väkivaltakuvauksineen. Kirjassa mm. leikataan päitä, revitään lapsilta sisälmyksiä ulos ja seitsemänvuotias tappaa aseella. No, dystopinen maailma on selviö. Suurin ongelma on, että tarinan maailmaa kuvataan aivan kuin sen pitäisi olla lukijalle tuttua huttua, vaan minä ainakin jäin miettimään mitkä uusperustajat, ketkä viholliset, ja mikä neurojuttu, johon jotkut kuuluu ja jotkut ei, mitä ovat sektorit ja sijaishallitsijat. Nämä varmaankin saavat selitykset seitsemänosaisessa aloitussarjassa Shatter Me, jota ei ole suomennettu. WSOY:ltä kerrottiin, että koelukijat ovat parjänneet ongelmitta sarjan kanssa ja kirjailijan agentillekin on sopinut, että sarjan maailmaan hypätään vasta tässä jatko-osassa. Minulle se tuotti hieman ongelmia. Dystopiaksi Katso minua on reipasotteinen. Päähenkilöistä löytyi loppupuolella tunteiden teinipiirteitä. Oli lihaksikkaita ja kauniin eteerisiä, joihin ihastua. Romantiikka astuu kehiin. Onneksi traumat ovat ja pysyvät, joten kovin yksinkertaiseksi asiat eivät mene. Raakuus säilyy. What it should be called? Or what it's called if there is such thing? I mean a dystopia showing a failed attempt at #solarpunk. A revolution that was good in general but went terribly wrong because the well-meaning people failed to recognize the true source of the problem, or just a revolution that allowed some corruption to persist and then the corruption overtook? And the honest people were cheering for it because it looked like what they wanted on the surface. #Omelanoma (Omelas melanoma)? #Greanwash? #Greenfash? Or just #dystopia?

I just realized there should exist a cannon of dystopias that #solarpunk s point to as a warning on what is going to happen if we don't actually #decolonize our supply chains when building solarpunk or keep the capitalist ownership structure when building our green future. To me, the prime example of this is the movie #elysium. A paradise space station in the clouds full of greenery and high tech and loads of lowlifes on the earth, rotting on the wasteland. I was recently shocked that people clapped for a skyscraper with a roof garden with fruits that was showed on Andrew Millison channel. People called it solarpunk! A tiny bunch of locals in the comments pointed out that the workers that keep those gardens up don't enjoy their fruits. They are low pay. The relatively tiny output (1t annually) of that garden goes to a luxury restaurant there and it's reserved only for the VIP to brag it's extra fresh. We should be banging those people with the whole range of dystopian dynamics that it reproduces! What other dystopian classics do you recommend to warn people against solarpunk fail? #dystopia #cyberpunk #antiutopia #utopia #eutopia
