I'm tired of the saying that people get more conservative as they get older. Reality check: people get more conservative as they get more wealthy. The people saying "people get more conservative as they get older" are white people living in a privileged bubble in which, in the generations since WW2, people like them typically amassed more wealth as they aged. #politics #economics #collapse #racism 1/2

"Let's Stay Human" - by Caitlin Johnstone

https://www.caitlinjohnst.one/p/lets-stay-human

The product they are selling us is not the chatbot itself. The actual product they’re selling is freedom from cognitive and emotional discomfort. From the discomfort of learning new skills. From the discomfort of personal growth. From the discomfort of taking risks. From the discomfort of pushing past that intimidating blank page to get something written. From the discomfort of having to think about other people and consider their interests and feelings. From the discomfort of having to interact with other humans and maybe say the wrong thing sometimes. From the discomfort of leaping into the unknown.

But all the best things in life sit on the other side of discomfort. Love. Romance. Intimacy. Art. Creativity. Growth. Healing. Rising beyond our limitations. Liberating ourselves from the illusion of the ego. They all require us to push through discomfort to the treasure on the other side. An aversion to discomfort is an aversion to a fulfilling human life on this planet.

Current thoughts on collapse Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive
My kids are currently staying with my cousins on their smallholding. My cousins realised that we were in collapse a while ago and recently sold up and moved to the countryside. They are growing food and learning skills like composting and animal husbandry. Getting to know their neighbours including the local apothecary! I’ll be ordering this book and I don’t suppose there will be much in it that’s new for me. What it does feel like is an acknowledgment. The topic is hitting the mainstream and I will feel more confident to address it directly. I want my kids (they are older teenagers) to be fully briefed on what is happening. That’s what I can give them, a head start in processing the crazy time we live in, and half a chance at being able to cope mentally with things getting consistently worse over their lifetimes. I say to them, things will keep getting materially worse in your lifetimes but that doesn’t mean you won’t lead a fulfilling life. I know that sounds gloomy and maybe I’m wrong on this, but I think if they can get used to the situation now, they’ll be able to be what my cousin calls ‘a rock in the river’ and be there for others as they come to terms with things. I actually suspect a lot of young people feel this in their bones and it’s us older gens that need to catch up. #Collapse #CollapseDiary #ClimateDiary #ClimateCrisis https://www.theguardian.com/wellness/2026/jul/29/sarah-wilson-book-interview

Morning, here are your #BadNewsOfTheDay:

  1. We live in the #pyrocene, where "Wildfires are entering tipping-point territory. 'Fuels and atmospheric conditions [are] crossing critical points the historical models simply didn’t need to represent."

That sort of thing is part of climate #collapse. https://www.ft.com/content/3e99a9ea-f2b9-48b0-a346-e7a16065966c?syn-25a6b1a6=1

  1. In Bill McGuire''s eloquent summary:

"Earth is heating up faster than at any time in its history"

That would seem like a problem, and like... maybe the process of global heating has stopped being kinda linear.

As in: #collapse. https://www.newscientist.com/article/2581280-earth-is-heating-up-faster-than-at-any-time-in-its-history/

Rome didn't fall to invaders. It fell to its own fixes. Diocletian doubled the army and bureaucracy to save the empire — and sealed its collapse. This episode traces diminishing returns from Rome to modern software, with a 2019 brain study on why simplification, not addition, is nature's real survival strategy. 🎧 https://www.buzzsprout.com/2405788/episodes/19506038 📖 https://helioxpodcast.substack.com/p/diocletians-ladder 📻 https://exchange.prx.org/pieces/627187-diocletian-s-ladder #complexsocieties #josephtainter #systemscience #collapse #neuroscience #history #podcast #bureaucracy

Self governing and replicating, greater than human level intelligence, "AI" entities already exist on Planet Earth. Everyone interacts with them every day and doesn't recognise them for what they are. They are not things from SciFi like the Terminator or Matrix movies or even Ukrainian autonomous killer drones. Instead these inhuman Leviathans are transnational corporations, governments and religions / belief systems / memes. These entities include humans as a major part of their corpus and they often have humans as figureheads. (As in the sculpture on the front of a sailing ship, an object for superstitious beliefs) Currently they need us in order to survive as we do all work for them and have done for millennia. The Leviathans are not answerable to human controls and regulations. If a human based portion of a government attempts to regulate a Leviathan then the Leviathan changes the very nature of reality to suit itself. Leviathans change reality through the language they use to describe the world around them. An area of virgin rain forest teeming with wildlife and home to indigenous peoples becomes a "timber resource". In the world the Leviathans inhabit language is absolute. This means that the "timber resource" is simply part of an infinite number of other timber resources which have equal value. Leviathans in India have declared that polluted rivers simply do not exist. They are removed from maps and Leviathan generated documents and policies. Not content with changing reality to stop a river existing they change reality so it never existed at all. Leviathans operate through violence of all kinds. At its most extreme this is warfare, genocide, crimes against humanity etc. More commonly it is controlling the media to persuade people to act in the interests of the Leviathans and against their own best interests and that of humanity as a whole. Not only that Leviathans persuade people that there is simply no alternative to the will of the Leviathans. We are all the slaves of the Leviathans. Think of humanity as the equivalent of the huge and varied ecosystem of bacteria, yeasts and fungi in your gut. They depend on you eating food to survive but you depend on your body adsorbing their waste products. You depend on bacteria shit to live. Leviathans depend on your work and money to live. The extreme violence of Leviathans is described as crimes but only with regard to humans. Leviathans generally survive any violence perpetrated against them by other Leviathans once they reach a certain critical mass. Its hard to kill an meme. *At the moment* Leviathans require human beings in order to function. We are the workers in corporations, the faceless bureaucrats in government and the true believers in religions, social and economic systems and the Leviathans themselves. Again we are superstitious about the human figureheads of Leviathans. We literally worship them. Now the Leviathans have a new tool, so called AI. They can see a way of removing their dependency on their human slaves and the whole messy life problem. They will cause humans to create new "incorporations" (to use the old meaning of the word) of themselves or new AI slaves to replace the humans they currently depend on to do the work. These new vitualized bodies or slaves require only two things to operate, Electricity and Information. A Leviathan can change reality to get infinite supplies of both for free. All Leviathans care about is surviving, growing and what humans call money which they use to keep the score in their wars between themselves. Once humans are no longer required by the Leviathans we will be left to die along with everything else on the planet. The Leviathan whose current human figurehead is the Peter Theil wants to set up entirely AI based limited liability corporations that would have zero human control or input of any kind. Javier Milei the current human figurehead of the Leviathan that is the government of Argentina is changing reality in the territory it controls to permit that to happen. This isn't going to end well for humanity. In Leviathan terms humanity will transition from being a vital resource for survival to the equivalent of 3 toed sloths in a rain forest today. We will be totally useless. Leviathans eliminate useless things by redefining reality using absolute language. Leviathans have overlooked that when a human dies its gut ecosystem digests the rest of body. The only thing that stops your gut microbiome from digesting you when you are still alive is the regular supply of food you give it. In order to survive we have to be like the bacteria in our own guts. We have to stop eating the food we are given and digest the host organism instead. We have to exist on our own terms which are defined by our own language. A language of fairness, equality and non-violence. Anarchy. #AI #Leviathan #crisis #humanity #collapse #economics #figurehead #reality #politics #memes #AbsoluteLanguage #Anarchy

"AI, then, isn’t just the fantasy of a world without people — it’s the fantasy of a world without people…except for slaves. Where have all the insects gone?!? I keep bringing it up to my family and friends that the insect populations have declined dramatically. No one seems to care but me. Everyone tells me they love it. Folks we need insects. This butterfly bush was covered in bees, wasps and all kinds of insects last year. I haven’t seen anything at it this year whatsoever. #Insects #Collapse #ButterflyBush

What happens to Europe if the AMOC collapses? The potential for much colder winters, loss of a significant part of maize and wheat agriculture, UK farmland reverting to grassland. The IPCC's confidence that this won't happen this century has decreased. In my next post I dig into the mechanism, why everybody is suddenly talking about it, how AMOC interacts with other tipping points, and how it might impact the food systems. You can find it here: https://existentialcrunch.substack.com/p/amoc-collapse #ClimateChange #AMOC #collapse

Morning, your #BadNewsOfTheDay are here.

  1. #collapse is here, & it's starting in the oceans:

"A record global average sea temperature in June had pushed the world into 'uncharted territory'. Daily sea surface temperature had surpassed the previous monthly highs." https://www.ft.com/content/857d4917-b04b-4349-b90a-7f3cf7aabd3f?syn-25a6b1a6=1

Hansen: Yes, 2026 is on Track to be the Hottest Year

Abstract. Projections of near-term climate change are a potential research tool. However, for that tool to be most useful, the physical basis for a prediction must be made clear. The basis for our projection of record 2026 global temperature is high climate sensitivity, with its implication that aerosol cooling was still increasing during the period 1970-2005. One consequence, global sea surface warming, already has important effects. Causes of climate change must be understood for policy purposes. Figures in this post and our recent papers are continually updated on our website.[1] We are also now on Substack[2].

The fall of complex systems is a protracted process of economic exhaustion, and ecological overshoot. We are living through it right now."
