The movie, Greenland 2, is pissing me the fuck off. I'm only watching it because I love post-apocalypse movies.
The science is terrible. Just as one example, how is it that the North Atlantic is deep enough to make massive tsunamis but Liverpool is half submerged and the ocean between Dover and Calais is bone dry, so that people can just walk across the stretch to the mainland? Does not compute.
And then there's the casual racism that I don't even think they're aware of. The white family protagonists make it to Liverpool from Greenland, are immediately picked up by a Nigerian man who discloses he's been in the UK for 12 years (5 of them are post comet impact). Leaving aside it's been 5 years since everything resembling civilization has been destroyed, he has found enough viable gasoline to be perfectly willing to drive these people from Liverpool to London, and all for a wristwatch. Then they immediately kill him off so the white people can loot his van, which was destroyed when fragments of the comet that are still dropping out of orbit smashed it and him along with it. He's the only black person I've seen in the film so far, and I'm halfway through. And they just killed him off like the plot device they made him to be.
Not to mention the gasoline in the lifeboat that took them from Greenland to England. Gas doesn't last for five years. It degrades.
And speaking of degradation, the family's kid is on an insulin pump and somehow they've been able to keep him in insulin for five years. Not only that, they had a large stockpile of it to take with them when they fled the Greenland bunker. I don't know enough about insulin to know how quickly it degrades but surely they wouldn't have had access to that much of it over time, sealed in one bunker for the past five years.
I don't even know if I'm going to finish it. It's like the plot was written by a 12 year old with no practical scientific knowledge, with the assistance of some chat bot.
