Here is an article on how the American Medical Association helped entrench private health insurance in the US after WW2. By branding national insurance “socialised medicine” and promoting private plans. It shows how well-funded interest groups can shape opinion and policy. https://academic.oup.com/qje/article/141/3/2147/8669893 #healthInsurance #healthCare #healthHistory #history #medicine #USA #USHistory #publicHealth #AMA

#Trump Friday ordered “warning” signs & exhibits installed outside the #Smithsonian’s National Museum of #AmericanHistory to alert the public that the #museum does not, *in his view*, accurately reflect #UShistory. The “unusual” [batshit cray] directive, made through an [illegal] #ExecutiveOrder [of course], was a considerable escalation of Trump’s dispute with the #Smithsonian & its #history #museum, which was the subject of a recent [ #FarRight #WhiteSupremacist ] 162-page report. #law

Goddamnit this muther f⁕⚠︎er 🤬🤬🤬 #Trump ordered new signs outside a #Smithsonian #museum that warn its depiction of #UShistory is "inaccurate." Trump claimed the signage at the National Museum of #AmericanHistory would correct what a disputed White House report described as “extreme political activism.” NO! Your initially #insane brain that has clearly succumbed to #dementia is HELLA wrong you #billionaire #racist #misogynist! F⁕⚠︎ you! #law #museums #UShistory https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/24/arts/design/smithsonian-signs-trump-executive-order.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share

The part of the Declaration of Independence they've been glossing over for centuries is why we are here in this moment. He arrived in Montana with 14 cents, a trainload of ambition, and seven green apples. Charles M. Bair turned a railroad conductor’s wage into 300,000 sheep, a Klondike gold fortune, and an oil town that still bears his name. Montana’s most unlikely empire-builder never left. When a Photographer Turned His Focus on Social Injustice, It Helped Usher in the First Child Labor Laws Lewis Hine didn’t consider his job as taking pictures; it was “detective work.” Sometimes gaining access with ruse and subterfuge, he captured stark images that touched hearts and changed minds https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/when-photographer-turned-focus-social-justice-helped-usher-first-child-labor-laws-180988833/ "West Side Studies: Boyhood and Lawlessness; The Neglected Girl" at PG contains some of Hine's photographs https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/60116 #history #USHistory

IndyCar has pulled a T-shirt from its online store after Reddit and Bluesky users pointed out its glaringly offensive slogan: One Nation, One Race. The graphic tee was designed to celebrate the 250th anniversary of America's founding, which will be marked by an IndyCar race through the streets of Washington, D.C. Here's more from Motor Trend. https://flip.it/_SLAe8 #USHistory #USNews #IndyCar
