I co-wrote this with @WillRobinson@indieweb.social highlighting the recent Scottish election as a sign of what is coming our way: “The next generation of election disinformation may not come from a social media post at all. It may come from the answer.” #Ai #Disinformation https://substack.com/home/post/p-202048579

The US Apache helicopter was in Iranian airspace when it was hit. Has this simple fact been mentioned in any of the mainstream western media reporting on this latest round of escalation? Perhaps, but I haven't seen it. A few days ago, Israel did not respond to Iranian aggression with a counter strike (as most mainstream media sources framed it). Iran was responding to Israel's ongoing aggression in southern Lebanon over the last few months, where the Israeli military has been bulldozing dozens of villages, killing well over 3,000 people (predominantly civilians), wounding more than ten thousand people, targeting (once more) medical facilities and first responders, displacing over 20% of the population, while announcing plans to make their occupation permanent. And Iran was responding specifically to Israel once more bombing a densely-populated part of Beirut. For decades, western media have consistently misrepresented the aggressors (US-Israel) as the victims. Whenever one of the targets of their illegal expansionist/imperialist violence retaliates, this response/defence is treated as the originating act of aggression and (retrospective) _casus belli_. History didn't start yesterday. #MediaBias #USImperialism #Iran #IranWar #Israel #InternationalLaw #framing #Disinformation

Misinformation has become pervasive in Taiwan's information environment. A survey by NTU found that there was a high level of awareness of misinformation and its impacts on society Over 90% of respondents supported government legislation to regulate misinformation. 76% believed that technology companies should take a more active role in limiting its spread https://en.tfc-taiwan.org.tw/taiwans-2025-misinformation-survey-from-political-narratives-to-scam-driven-content/ #Taiwan #FactCheck #disinformation #SocialMedia #tech #台灣 #事實查核

@Infoseepage@mastodon.social @ChristosArgyrop@mastodon.social @thatdnaguy@genomic.social at least unlike #Shitcoin-#ASIC|s for the like of #Bitcoin these #GPU|s can at least be reused for something productive. Worst-case it'll make #Gaming, #CAD and #HPC "affordable" again.Best case we'll see actual #innovation outside of #Deepfake|s & #Disinformation campaigns!

Big Tech and the Far Right: Musk’s growing political role illustrates how concentrated private power in the tech sector is fuelling fascism. Through control of a major social media platform, amplification of far-right narratives and direct engagement with reactionary figures and movements, Musk has helped normalise extremist rhetoric and expand its reach. @asanpin@defcon.social Done. Mixed feelings. To concentrate solely on FIMI does not sound wise. In the USA DIMI is at present the most urgent problem (Domestic Information Manipulation and Interference), which has already halted research necessary for informed citizens in a democracy, and IMI in general is dangerous, no matter its source. In Finland, we don't usually speak about "democracies", because the actual distribution of political power is more important itself, and comes in degrees. Some NATO-countries, e.g, are not democratic, and some even oligarchic, or at least act like ones. There is no "West" or "the democratic world" but in some not so democratic ruler's and marketer's jargon. That jargon manifests itself maybe too much in the WFW-report. Some parts of it were educational, some clearly outdated, superficial, and/or unnecessarily fear-mongerous. The Alan Turing report is on quite another level with its delailed scenarios for influence in Ch. 5, https://www.turing.ac.uk/sites/default/files/2020-10/epistemic-security-report_final.pdf With respect to the AI-danger there have been proposals for an IPCC-like body to steer and regulate at least something, https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-023-01606-9 but guess which former "democracy" just dissociated itsef from even the original IPCC? And referring to, e.g, the dual-use problem, guess who frustrated at least part of the EU AI-Act, https://corporateeurope.org/en/2023/02/lobbying-ghost-machine My advice for most everybody would be to stop using tools which use you, and maybe instead start to read real texts, preferably more than 10 pages long. Important things don't come easily, and the hustle we constantly feel, isn't ours. I go back to my primary reading, thanks for the opportunity to think aloud, https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/attention/ #cognitiveWarfare #information #ai #democracy #usa #ipcc #aiAct #propaganda #disinformation

Only 17% of Austrian MPs are still on X. Compare that to Sweden, 66%, the Netherlands, 63%, and the EU, 58%, that gap is striking. Finland is often cited as a leader in digital literacy and counter-disinformation. It makes me curious how Finnish politicians assess X today, as a neutral platform, or as an active disinformation risk. Which European country will be the first to seriously lead by example and walk away from this disinformation machine? #X #disinformation #Finland #LeaveX

As Donroe Tantrump reminds us, we should be wary of #FakeNews, ie #Disinformation spread with malicious intent, so I repost this as a cautionary tale. The best Agitprop contains a hard stony kernel of lies cloaked in the soft succulent peachy flesh of the truth; it often works by downplaying or omitting some truths. The gunshots as ostensibly recorded by this video sound compressed or missing; in my mind, it's still damning. #Trump #GOP #MAGA #USpol #TyrantTrump #ICE https://youtu.be/KrmJap851dQ?si=qlu7z6_Xvni1n0fD

AI models don’t really 'get' the BSDs. As a result, they often provide incomplete, imprecise, or flat-out wrong answers by defaulting to Linux paradigms. When it comes to illumos-based systems, they just completely lose the plot. This is becoming a serious issue for the BSDs and illumos ecosystems. We are seeing entire websites flooded with AI-generated tutorials and guides that are totally incorrect. Most people don't realize this; they follow the instructions, fail, and then assume that the BSDs doesn't work well or are 'unstable' because they have supposedly changed since the guide was written. Luckily, some people eventually find my blog, reach out, and finally understand what's actually going on. Others, unfortunately, end up on major social sites or comments, claiming that these systems are broken. In 2026, one of our greatest challenges will be teaching people how to vet their sources and filter information. And I see this as a very, very uphill battle. #IT #SysAdmin #FreeBSD #NetBSD #OpenBSD #illumos #News #UnderstandingText #Disinformation
