Science Explainer: Is being transgender a choice?
The evidence says no. Identical twins show ~39% concordance for trans identity; fraternal twins near zero. Prenatal-hormone & brain studies point the same way. The Endocrine Society calls it "a durable biological element underlying gender identity" — exactly why the APA & WPATH reject conversion therapy: you can't change what wasn't chosen.
Not new. Not an illness. Not a choice.
