@chpietsch@fedifreu.de Best ways to spot them: Check the ip on a site like ipqualityscore.com to see if it's from a datacenter or tor exit node. Check if the domain of the signup emailadres is disposable using something like usercheck.com Does the bio of the profile seem genuine? Take a section of it and search it between " " 's into a search engine and see if it matches an existing fedi profile, they often copy random profile's. Doing this will find 95% of them #FediAdmin #MastoAdmin

The technical cost per user (excluding moderation) of a Fediverse server is determined by how large your server is. A single person's microblogging server typically costs about 5 euros per user per month through managed hosting, but a server with dozens of people on it typically costs about 0.5 euros per user (and it gets even cheaper per user beyond that). Dear admins, mods, and modmins... Alas, the same "open registration" instances are used over and over again to harass and troll the fedi. Yes, we understand the arguments for allowing open registration. But tbh? We find those arguments unconvincing given the abuse we see. The fedi has a serial troll / spammer problem and open registration contributes to its continuation. Offering them the means to register and immediately harass people makes for a less friendly fediverse, not a more friendly one. Reviewing a "reason for joining" before approving an account is not too much to ask. If it is, then we respectfully suggest that the instance has either too many members or too few moderators. When an instance becomes a go-to for trolls because it offers instant access, that instance creates work for every other federated instance, makes fedizens into victims, and feeds the trolls' need for attention. That there is such a simple solution (manual approval / vibe check) is kind of infuriating at times. We know that this plea / request will not convince those driven by growth and open registration no matter the cost to the fedi community. But if we convince at least one open registration instance to switch to screened approvals, we will consider it a win. Lastly: If you're on an open reg instance, we suggest POLITELY asking your admin / mods to change their policy. #fedi #FediMods #FediModerator #FediAdmin

It really bugs me that #Facebook is still the go-to platform for local information for most people. Everything I’ve done with myLocal NewsBot project is intended to make Mastodon/the Fediverse equally useful for up-to-date local news and information, and for the most part I think it’s been successful; I’m able to stay up to date, even ahead of traditional news sources. The remaining nuts that need to be cracked IMO are local business pages and groups (and maybe Marketplace). We need something on the #Fediverse side that speaks to those needs. #FediAdmin #FediDev

⚠️ Sharkey is no longer compatible with Mastodon and Misskey.⚠️ As a fork of Misskey, Sharkey hasn't been keeping up with recent updates to either Misskey or Mastodon. Because of this, people using newer versions of Mastodon and Misskey can no longer vote in polls hosted on Sharkey sites. The current version of Mastodon is 4.6.3 and the current version of Misskey is 2026.7.0-beta.4 If your Fedi site is running an older version of Mastodon or Misskey, you may still be able to interact with Sharkey. Hallo Mods und Admins. Wir bekommen häufiger englischsprachige Anmeldewünsche, in der der Nick z.B. aus maximal 2 Buchstaben plus 6 Zahlen bestehen (oder Variationen davon). Domain ist gmail und der Text ist nichtssagend. Wir vermuten mögliche Geisterkonten, um später Spam oder ähnliches zu initiieren. I'm seeing an issue where at least one user is having issues where their interactions with mutuals on federated servers aren't appearing to each other.

  • Replies not appearing on the target's instance, so the mutual on another instance replies to a post here, and the OP here doesn't see it at all, it does not exist on our end

  • Follow requests not showing up in either direction

Sidekiq looks good. Postgres looks good. Any ideas on even where to start?

I don't know why it is always Pleroma type Fedi sites that seem to host this kind of nonsense. But even the admin greets everyone using the "n" word. It's on the cover page of parcero.casa Attached is their "about" page. Warning they do use the "n" word and instruct people to kill themselves. #FediAdmin #MastoAdmin #FediBlock
