#yegbike commute: pleasantly cool at +13° with mild northwest wind. Paths still full of branches, twigs, and a few stubborn puddles and muddy patches. Street life in the inner city mostly under tarps with one campfire. Traffic medium weekday light, none too annoying. No songbirds out, just ducks and gulls. A few rabbits. Paths mostly empty, a few regular other bike commuters. Fairly ideal ride. #earworm ‘You Turn Me On, I’m A Radio’, Joni Mitchell. Don’t know why the mental radio is playing the old favourites. Better than the Nickelback a week ago.

#yegbike commute: a little bit chilly at +9° with northwest winds. Paths full of tree branches and twigs - how can they have any left? Inner city quiet under tarps, traffic quite light. Other than puddles and mud, a pretty good ride. Not much bird action of any kind. #earworm still ‘Falling Slowly’, Glen Hansard. Damn that motorcycle!

#yegbike commute: a little on the warm side at +14°C with negligible wind in overcast skies. Paths mostly good and dry, still muddy in patches, particularly around the low level bridge, and of course branches and twigs all over. Mosquitoes still out, but slightly less than before. Inner city mostly absent, a few people and bike commuters on the paths. Traffic light but medium annoying. #earworm still ‘Falling Slowly’, RIP Glen Hansard.

#yegbike commute: wow, you go away for a few days, and everything goes to heck! A reasonably cool +12°C with light northwest wind. Surfaces a mixed bag of dodging branches, puddles, mud. But mostly dry surfaces. Took the High Level Bridge for safety, will check out Low Level underpass on the way home. Traffic medium light, not too annoying. Few other bike commuters, street life medium active. Not a bad ride, but mindfulness required. Not much bird action, just ducks on the very full ponds. #earworm ‘Simply The Best’, Tina Turner

#yegbike commute; much better day at +15°C with slight southwest breeze. Air is quite smoky, sun rose red. Traffic back to medium busy levels, inner city street life quite active. Paths medium busy, regular bike commuters out and about. Surfaces mostly dry, except for all the puddles. Mosquitoes abound. AThe commute report will be off for a week as we head down to Calgary for the Folk Festival. No bike riding anticipated, but bike shops wi be visited. #earworm ‘You Turn Me On, I’m A Radio’, Joni Mitchell

#yegbike commute: warmish at +16°C, but a northwest wind and light rain takes care of that. Regular bike commuters out, innner city mostly under tarps. Traffic light, at least. Also Low Level Bridge was open. Rain and mosquitoes! #earworm ‘Misery’, XTC

#yegbike commute: lovely temperature of +9° with negligible northwest wind makes for a fantastic riding day. Traffic surprisingly light, the regular bike commuters were out, paths medium full of joggers and dog walkers. Inner city medium busy and loud. Only complaint in the amount of branches, puddles and muddy patches. #earworm ‘Purple Rain’ by you know who.

Today's #earworm was the instruction that got me moving this morning. Gotta get up (and Ride On Time) It's Black Box. (And a blast from British nostalgic past) https://youtu.be/oAtRsH48RNo #Music #totp

Replying to @SteveClough@metalhead.club
@SteveClough@metalhead.club @yourfutureex@metalhead.club I always have an #earworm — there's always music going through my head — so getting rid of an earworm is a matter of replacing it with another one, which I can do by playing a song I like better. As for embarrassing childhood #memories: self-compassion helps. I remind myself that I can't change the past, I forgive myself (without making excuses) for whatever I did wrong, and I use my adult's-eye view to recognise that, when people told me it was all my fault, it very often wasn't.

What is your most frequent earworm? Mine is Cat Steven's "Moonshadow", followed closely by Harry Nilsson's "Think About Your Troubles". Cat Stevens was in heavy rotation at home when I was growing up, and Nilsson's song was from an animated movie, "The Point!", that I watched a lot as a child. #Music #Earworm

#yegbike commute: a lovely temperature of +8°C with no wind. Surfaces mostly dry, some puddles and a bit of muddy gravel. Traffic still quite light. Paths had the regular joggers and dog walkers, a few bike commuters. Took the downtown route, sad to see the east side of High Level still closed. No new birds, less songbirds than a few weeks ago. #earworm ‘Powder Finger’, Neil Young

#yegbike commute: again, hot & muggy at +13°C with slight northwest wind. Paths freshly puddled, wet branches and gravel/mud patches keep one mindful. Inner city present but subdued, maybe most in their sidewalk tents. Traffic again light, really nice. Paths mostly empty, the few regular bike commuters on their own journeys. Songbirds not too much in voice, perhaps it was the coyote who seemed quite okay communing with me, from a safe distance. With the coyote, No Regrets. Bringing to mind a Joni Mitchell #earworm

#yegbike commute: quite warm at +15°C with slight northwest breeze. Paths full of little branches, and many many puddles. Paths mostly empty, perhaps the dog walkers and joggers are avoiding the clouds of mosquitoes. They are legion. Traffic light, the riding itself was not too bad. Smokey skies have an obscured orange sun in the sky. A warm and muggy ride, but overall good. Not many songbirds singing, hopefully they are busy eating mosquitoes. #earworm ‘Tokyo’, Bruce Cockburn. Me and all the other dice, bouncing around in the cup.

#yegbike commute: chilly at -6°C with light southwest winds. Surfaces mostly bare, but enough crunchy ice sections made me not regret taking the winter beater with spiked tires. Maybe last ride for that bike this season? Anyway, not a bad ride. Traffic surprisingly light and well-behaved. Only a few people out and about, inner city medium active with only one sidewalk campfire. Can’t really complain. #earworm ‘I Wish They All Could Be Empowered Girls’ (working on an updated version of the Beach Boys song)

#yegbike commute, pm update: enough snow fell through the day that drifts and uncleared paths can be downright skittery, requiring mountain bike trail skills. Some minor roads are beautiful snowpack, some medium roads quite brown sugar mushy. Main roads are okay in the tracks, but any intersection or curve require mindful caution. Back at work, I had the ladies who enjoy my unofficial hymn sing study the #earworm of the day, 'In The Bleak Midwinter'. They really listened to it as there was an actual snowstorm right outside the large windows. They really like the song, and want to sing it at hymn sing now. Luckily we have a real hymn singing piano player for that, I'll just have to find her the sheet music. I can pick out the tune, but my piano playing makes it sound like a jazz/blues number. Here is a version that showed me the song - a lady playing it along with a bunch of ghosts only she can see and hear. https://youtu.be/iZ-tYofndFY
