I'm sure if happens all the time, but it's a first for me to be awakened by the mooring pendant bumping against the hull. It's so calm out there that all the boats in the mooring field are pointed in different directions. I went up on deck and found that the mooring ball is floating between the main hull and the starboard ama, under the net. It's fine, but a little unnerving. 🫤

An object lesson in how dissimilar metals behave in salt water. The current owner of the boat had this steel rudder downhaul cable repaired with an aluminum nicropress fitting just a few months ago. When we hauled it out for a survey inspection, it had completely dissolved! 😮

The owner had to scramble to find a rigger, who installed the correct zinc-coated brass nicropress fitting (pictured), and had to pay for an extra hour of travel lift time. 🤷‍♂️

I discovered that my 30 year old foul weather gear no longer keeps the rain out during a torrential downpour while having a potential boat purchase surveyed today 🙁☔⛵.

We kept finding little bits of old curled up tape, and were wondering what duct tape nightmare the surveyor might discover, but it turned out to be old seam sealing tape that was crumbling off my jacket 🤦‍♂️

So, it was a relief to discover it wasn't some horrible, hidden, problem with the boat.
