X has sent cease-and-desist letters demanding Nitter and its instances shut down, alleging unlawful API use and data scraping. ⚖️
Nitter, an open source reader, is offline while its creator seeks legal advice. 🔒

If you have an app that relies on alternative frontends such as #Invidious, #Nitter and others, it's often hard to maintain a list of instances. I had that problem with #UntrackMe and #CastLab, so a CI job now runs every day to maintain a list of available instances.
I might add support for this to #Fedilab.

X Has Shut Down Nitter
#Nitter, the open-source frontend that provided privacy-preserving access to Twitter, has been shut down at Twitter's request. Yet another hostile move against user choice and data sovereignty in the social media space.
This might be the most petty, lame, insecure move I've seen from a tech company lately.
For those mourning the loss of #XCancel and #Nitter - I've written a guide to retrieving Tweets without using the Twitter API.

You can use that to get individual posts + whatever they were in reply to.
Enjoy!
