AGI - Non serve volare fino alle Bahamas per nuotare in acque turchesi accanto ai maiali. La nuova "Pig Beach" d'Europa si trova in Grecia, nel cuore del Mar Ionio, sulla piccola isola di Atokos.
Come racconta l'AFP, questo piccolo lembo di terra a breve distanza da Itaca è diventato un vero e proprio fenomeno virale su TikTok e Instagram, attirando ogni giorno turisti da tutto il mondo desiderosi di vivere un'esperienza decisamente insolita.
Nuotare con i maiali neri
L'attrazione principale dell'isola è una colonia di maiali neri che vive in totale libertà sulla spiaggia. Gli animali, ormai abituati alla presenza umana e del tutto docili, passeggiano sulla battigia in cerca di cibo prima di concedersi brevi bagni in mare per rinfrescarsi tra i bagnanti.
"Sembrano trovarsi perfettamente nel loro habitat e non tentano di mordere se non li si tocca", ha raccontato all'AFP Francesco Ferrari, un tatuatore italiano di 22 anni in visita ad Atokos. L'esperienza sta conquistando viaggiatori di ogni nazionalità, trasformando l'isola in una tappa fissa per i tour in barca nella zona.
Come arrivare ad Atokos e le escursioni da Cefalonia e Leucade
Poco conosciuta prima che le immagini dei maiali che nuotano diventassero virali sui social, Atokos accoglie ora migliaia di visitatori, soprattutto durante la stagione estiva.
Gli operatori turistici locali organizzano traversate e gite in giornata in partenza da Itaca, Leucade e Cefalonia. "L'isola è diventata famosa proprio grazie ai maiali; la maggior parte dei clienti ci chiede esplicitamente di venire qui", ha confermato all'AFP Renato Bisha, uno dei capitani che effettua collegamenti quotidiani verso Atokos.

Swimming with Black Pigs
The main attraction of the island is a colony of black pigs that live in total freedom on the beach. The animals, accustomed to human presence and completely docile, wander along the shore looking for food before indulging in short swims in the sea to cool off among bathers.
“They seem perfectly at home in their habitat and do not attempt to bite unless they are touched,” Francesco Ferrari, an Italian tattoo artist aged 22 visiting Atokos, told AFP. The experience is captivating travelers of all nationalities, transforming the island into a fixed stop for boat tours in the area.

Little known before images of pigs swimming went viral on social media, Atokos now welcomes thousands of visitors, especially during the summer season.
Local tourism operators organize crossings and day trips departing from Ithaca, Leucade and Cephalonia. “The island became famous thanks to the pigs; most of our customers explicitly ask us to come here,” Renato Bisha, one of the captains who operates daily connections to Atokos, confirmed to AFP.
