'Lessons learned' over LGBT youth event at #Exeter Library - BBC News This is incredibly sad and I suspect the "lesson learned" was that #SexEducation stalls are more effort than they're worth for public services. In a brilliant and unexpected find, it turns out that being repeatedly exposed to homophobic hate speech puts the target of it in a bad mental state and desensitizes everyone else to it. As it also turns out, the COO of the company is, in fact, the director of a Canadian far-right media outlet, too. So I guess this whole selling fascist merch on your platform is just par for the course and totally fine on Shopify, save for any fraud that might go on because apparently there's some actual ideological alignment there. Today in LGBTQ History July 6, 1973: Reverand Ray Broshears, a gay Pentecostal evangelist, formed the Lavender Panthers, armed street vigilantes who defended San Francisco’s lgbtq community at a time of sharply increasing violence against their community. It was also a time when SFPD would routinely blame the victims for the assaults, accusing them of having “propositioned” their attackers. Furthermore, who wanted to ask the police for help when the cops were routinely raiding gay bars and beating patrons as they did so? Members of the Lavender Panthers walked streets of the Castro and the Tenderloin looking for altercations. They carried weapons, including shotguns and bats. They also held self-defense training sessions for community members. In 1974, they intervened violently against a group of people throwing water balloons at gay community members, outside the Pendulum bar. This ultimately led to their demise. Broshears, himself, was a controversial figure. Gay men most of the time are the most vulnerable letter of LGBT. Hate crimes mostly target them. People still use the word "gay" as a slur. Homophobia is still very acceptable globally. I'm feeling like we're not talking about this enough. Many of you may have heard of #swatting and considering how many #queer folks are on here I wouldn’t be surprised if someone seeing this has been a victim or know someone who has been a victim of such an attack. Here is a new tactic - using #CPS to inflict maximum pain to queer families. #PeteButtigieg and his family were targeted with a fake CPS report and led to him being separated from his 4 year old twins while the case was being evaluated (and children being interviewed in the absence of parents). This is a horrific new tactic and I hope queer families learn about this so they are not caught flat-footed.
