That's now the last butterfly from my #hike in #Piedmont I was amazed at how many different kinds of butterflies I saw and was able to photograph. This beauty, however, sat down on my cell phone after the first photo, which made it difficult to take a few other pictures. Unfortunately, I didn't pay attention to the shape of the wings. But, whatever. I still think the butterfly is beautiful. #sketch #sketchbook #watercolor #butterfly

last week I hiked The Bear Trail (Karhunkierros) in Finland. It's 82kms of hugely varied terrain starting inside the Arctic circle in Lapland (if you go north to south) and ending in Ruka village in Kuusamo, a cute little ski town. We did it in 4 days which was a push and made the days very long and tiring. The back country of Finland is what I imagine an outdoor IKEA series to be...highly curated and very Skandi. but it was cool to see another country through the hiker trash lens #hikertrash #hiking #nature #Finland #europe #hike

Baumgartenschneid- 1448m 🏔️ Letztes Wochenende waren wir wieder im wunderschönen Bayern und natürlich ging’s auch früh morgens auf einen Gipfel. #PhotoOfTheDay is an old snapshot I took of a colorful California king snake I encountered while hiking in the Santa Cruz mountains near Mt. Umunhum. I've come across king snakes over the years while hiking, but the others have all been the brown-patterned variety. This was the only one I've encountered with the red coloring, and it really gets your attention on the trail! The king snake is not venomous. #photo #photography #hike #snake #NopeRope #nature

The participative shelter construction site at the "ecosphere" farm project near Rietberg in Germany is part of my "Gestaltung" master's project "Common Shelter". It should also be a stepstone to empower climate friendly travels, by bike and foot, and make it easier.

Last building weekend we got the front roof laths ready and started with the side walls. They are also nearly finished. You can read more in our construction diary: https://shelter.apgw.de/?lang=en#2026_06_12

Our plan is:

  1. If it's too hot: Go to the near "Sennebach", find a place in the shade, cool down in the water.

  2. Fix the roof edge and glue a permanent EPDM foil onto the roof + layers of green roof plants.

  3. Build the last side and back walls.

  4. Create a front edge from oak wood and paint linseed oil varnish on the inner floor.
