Been using the “daluren vrij” ticket to go to Amsterdam today. I went and painted for 10 hours straight, which is a bat ridiculous. But I got a relatively big painting done so that’s good. Trying my luck with sunlit trees again. I am happy with the sporadic markings. Though most of the time was spend deleting details that were distracting/disruptive. It’s still a daunting and impossible subject to paint. I think I should have painted a tree more up close. I tried to see if I could tackle this extremely difficult subject. Used a lot of (for me) new techniques, tried out different ways to handle knife and brush to get the marks to create the sort of noise I required. Unfortunately, I had to take the Flixbus home again yesterday evening. 😢 And there were actually a lot more travelers at the Milan Lampugnano bus station, but I still find it hard to draw people. I actually filled my 14x14 cm #Hahnemühle ZigZag book with urban sketches during our trip. Today I felt somewhat sluggish and went to paint some water lilies. There was a windmill nearby that was famously painted by Monet once, which is probably why they planted those lilies there. I also did some framing, because I have two group shows in July/August. Compared to last year when I had shows back-to-back-to-back, it's been fairly quiet this year. And that means very little sales. These are both plein air pieces. For the locals, the right one (with two more) goes to the show at Wilbur D.
