Three white open flowers and, below them, ten closed flowers of a field chickweed (Cerastium arvense, Acker-Hornkraut). Leaves of yarrow are also visible in the background. #whiteflowers #wildflower #fieldchickweed #chickweed #cerastium #cerastiumarvense #hornkraut #ackerhornkraut

Ground ivy (Glechoma hederacea, Gundermann) in our montain meadow near a shady damp place near directly at the end of my fance I built 7 years ago. Due to its essential oils and bitter compounds, ground ivy was formerly used as a spice plant, and its young leaves were cooked as a vegetable. The plant was already used by the Germanic peoples as a medicinal and magical plant. #purpleflower #wildflower #groundivy #alehoof #gundermann #gundelrebe #glechoma #glechomahederacea

My little #wildflower meadow is attracting all kinds of new life. #PaulsYard OMG, the crickets out there, esp with the little pond. Birds have finally moved in the bird house that was vacant ever since we put it up two years ago, even before we started the work this year on the yard. Butterflies, etc and the flowers are still establishing themselves. Anxious to see what happens next year when the meadow is established. Going to consult for native plants to the area to fill in the beds.

#Photography #NaturePhotography #Wildflower I've never seen this particular wildflower before, I only know the short version as a weed in gardens. This one is Great Hairy Willow Herb

Heath Spotted Orchid (Dactylorhiza maculata) at its only site in the Bath area. It took me 2 attempts to find the spot, but I was glad when I did - there were about 50 spikes and considerable variation in the colour and markings of the flowers. #Nature #Wildlife #Orchid #Wildflower #Flower #WildflowerHour #Bloomscrolling #NaturePhotography #WildlifePhotography

Lizard Orchid (Himantoglossum hircinum) at Berrow, Somerset. This species is on the edge of its range here in Britain, but appears to be expanding its range, potentially in response to climate change. This one was growing on a sand dune near a golf course and was around 30-40cm high, but they sometimes also grow on road verges, and can reach heights of 90cm. #Nature #Wildlife #Orchid #Wildflower #Flower #WildflowerHour #Plant #Botany #NaturePhotography #WildlifePhotography

If you are following #PaulsYard, here is the view of the front yard #NoMow #WildFlower meadow from today's work from the security camera. The front yard edging and mulch beds, that surround the meadow, is now 90% done. We call that the horseshoe. Tomorrow, The side yard raised bed garden work begins. The front yard when completed will have one patch of grass next to the driveway that is 6 ft wide and around 20 ft long just for any visiting dogs to have a grassy place to potty. #Gardening I'll have Penny take extra pictures tomorrow in the daylight

Will be starting the side raised fruit and vegetable garden soon. #Gardening Legend: 1> needs spacing move. 2> Wheelchair deck and ramp is getting moved to this door. 3> only lawn, push mow battery mower for visiting doggies, clippings, etc. Will be seeded naturally. 4> Wildflower meadow 5> AC will be removed since we have low voltage HVAC now, recycled matching siding 6> Going to paint siding sandstone with hunter green for posts, doors, etc to match new room

4/FYI, if you are wondering what #PaulsYard started out as, here is the previous vs work-in-progress towards our #noMow #Wildflower and raised bed #garden yard. #Gardening . Will be glad when we tackle the roof and the front siding, tbh. That is this fall in earnest.

Highlight of our #wildflower searching this week were a few of the first flowers of Early Spider-orchid on the Purbeck coast. Very many more rosettes, spikes and buds yet to open up, so it was exciting to finally find a few flowers. This time last week, we couldn't find any. Soon there will be thousands. #WildflowerHour #orchids
