Futurism: It Appears That the US Military Accidentally Killed Everybody on Board a Civilian Medevac Flight in New Mexico "When those lights go out, man, you know you are in big trouble." "...New bombshell reporting by Wired reveals an incident in which the testing of an experimental GPS jammer resulted in a medical plane crashing into the side of a mountain. The horrifying incident happened in May, the publication reports, when a small twin-engine medevac aircraft carrying two pilots and two medical workers departed from Roswell, New Mexico. Heading West for the small mountain village of Ruidoso, the crew became the victim of an electronic warfare exercise being conducted at the nearby White Sands Missile Range, a test which rendered their navigational system inoperable...." https://futurism.com/science-energy/us-military-gps-jamming-signal-medical-flight #aviation #gps

I created #GeoPulse accounts for each family member and migrated all location history data from the #Owntracks recorder. The last bit was to switch #HomeAssistant location reporting to it. I'm not sure we will use GeoPulse often, but it's nice to know we have #SelfHosted location history. Can't wait to integrate it with #Immich, once we move there. #homelab #selfhost #selfHosting #LocationHistory #GPS

Local stratum 1 GPS NTP time server, yay! Now to see how it copes with sun and rain. The bag is an extra precaution. Tracking 36 satellites and using 19, over three networks. Current PPS tracking with σ=16ns Current jitter measured at FireBrick (NTP client) of 0.08ms, and latency of 0.7ms. Selected over any pool (via Internet) servers, understandably.

"How Airspeed Sensors Work" by @hackaday@hackaday.social - #GPS & #GNSS 🛰 can tell ground speed for purposes of navigation. But flying an airplane🛨🛧 or glider first requires airspeed. Piloting at takeoff, landing, cruise and maximum "red line" are all by airspeed. Airspeed differs from ground speed by wind direction/speed you're flying in. Airspeed is measured via a pitot tube (French word: silent t on the end) which looks like a forward-facing spike. https://hackaday.com/2026/06/30/how-airspeed-sensors-work/ #aviation #pilot #avgeek #science

Here is a hobby experiment that escalated wildly. For our long #Camino tracks I wanted a slide show that understands stages, animates GPS tracks, synchronises photos to it, and shows where they were taken. I also wanted to inspect and edit GPX tracks and polish a slide show control file, if needed. Commercial apps didn't do what I wanted, so I developed it myself. It became quite powerful and works for me. Now I wonder if anyone else wants to try. Mac only for now! #Backpacker #GPS #Jakobsweg

This is interesting https://hackaday.social/@hackaday/116846518114699492 TLDR; positional tracking without #GPS from ground-based stations. Nothing new of course. I do wonder why there must be a 'cloud' component to this... Why can't the ground stations transmit a TOTP derived code. Each user of the system could know the TOTP seed for the ground stations they wish to triangulate from. All necessary processing done on client, no need for sending anything to the cloud. I'm probably way out of my depth, but this is what I'd of started with.

No gpx track (cause I forgot to record :x ) A short bike ride close to the Tagus river in #lisbon. But for the lulz of it used #gnomemaps for navigation on a #oneplus6 with #mobian and #phosh and using the #gps . And yes the blue dot did moved accurately, and I was slow :) Screen recording of gnome maps being used for the navigation: https://peertube.debian.social/w/hQXiSXzTCtHMn6R8U7CESJ

@thanetric@mastodonapp.uk But so to would Artemis 2. In the reference frame of the Solar system's barycentre, Ted and #Artemis2, whilst not co-moving, have similar paths now that they are both on Terra. We'd need to pick a reference frame closer to home, where Artemis 2 is now stationary and Ted continues to move. WGS-84 is the obvious choice, I think. I suspect Ted is already being measured in it. I *definitely* wouldn't pick one with a billionaire as the origin point. The billionaire hopping onto a private (or even public) jet would make it seem like Artemis 2 was moving once again. Aside from complicating what is already a non-inertial frame, this seems like cheating to keep raising Artemis 2's total. (-: Artemis 2 does get legitimate credit for a few thousand extra km, though, because the service module took its own path around the globe after separation from the crew module. @GetCarter@mastodonapp.uk #astronomy #physics #GNSS #GPS
