The EuroSeal registry now lists 4 companies whose full stack passed the EU check, each re-scanned automatically every day. No self-certification: every badge links to a live report anyone can re-run with dig. If a US dependency ever creeps in, the entry flips. https://euroseal.cloud/registry #DataSovereignty #EU #BuyFromEU

I want to become unextractable to the surveillance economy. Lets build a world that has E2EE by default, local-first, and outside the jurisdiction of fascists. Where I can be me, say what I wish, and come and go as I please. I will be free and I will make it happen. #MyVision #Privacy #DataSovereignty #SurveillanceCapitalism #FOSS

Privacy is who can see your data. Sovereignty is who decides what it means about you. Medical records prove it: locked down, private, and still not yours to move. Privacy can work fine while sovereignty is broken. #DataSovereignty #Privacy #DigitalRights #TechLeadership #InfoSec

Cleaned up and simplified my Codeberg setup. Everything's now mirrored to GitHub as primary, with Codeberg kept for redundancy. https://github.com/TerminalTilt https://codeberg.org/TerminalTilt Also pretty cool: my QBZ contribution got merged into pre-release (Catppuccin themes for those who care). This was despite my consistently clumsy Git usage, so I'll take it. https://github.com/vicrodh/qbz/pull/612 Still on the todo list: the big one I keep putting off, documenting my homelab. Charts, docker+k3s examples, tutorials. You know... the thing that would actually help people. Also thinking about: Finding other ways to contribute to projects I care about.Debian tutorials, like how to make it satisfying without worrying about stale packagesSimplifying some projects into fish configs instead of overengineered setups. Expect a rant on this very soon. #Linux #Debian #FOSS #SelfHosted #FishShell #Catppuccin #DataSovereignty

New post on the blog: Data sovereignty through a historical lens. Enclosure acts, sharecropping, company towns, and why the Fediverse matters. It is not a tutorial. I am just thinking out loud about why I'm doing this. https://terminaltilt.com/posts/data-sovereignty-and-the-enclosure-of-the-internet/ #DataSovereignty #Fediverse #SelfHosting #Privacy #FOSS #TerminalTilt #BlogPost

Data Sovereignty in light of US uncertainty EU and businesses are abandoning US tech giants for open source and self-hosted alternatives. Pleased to share a piece I just finished with some guidance for small to medium sized organisations looking to migrate off big tech. It's based on many years helping organisations and groups do exactly that. While not definitive (there are other roads to the same place), I hope at least some of it is useful. https://courses.nikau.io/2026/07/03/moving-your-org-off-big-tech/ #infrastructure #bigtech #datasovereignty

Blog update:

https://blog.hofstede.it now loads zero external resources. Fonts and Bootstrap are self-hosted, the requests to Google Fonts and jsdelivr are gone. Your visit stays between the visitors browser and my server.

Also new:

  • Full-text search (Pagefind: fully static, no search backend, no tracking)
  • Series navigation for multi-part articles
  • Older/newer article links
  • A proper 404 page

Static sites don't need third parties.

Delighted to report that Amazon has abandoned its plans to build a datacenter here. The "lease-and-equip" model they're switching to is a lot easier to get rid of, when we eventually kick these digital imperialists out altogether. I'll raise a sovereign glass of fresh water to that. https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/business/594164/amazon-takes-45m-hit-abandons-planned-west-auckland-data-centre #privacy #datasovereignty #imperialism

On 25 Feb 2026, the UAE announced the world's first sovereign financial cloud. The CEO: "Finance runs on digital infrastructure; hence it must be sovereign." Four days later, drones hit AWS ME-CENTRAL-1. Two AZs down simultaneously. 109 services disrupted. 37 still dark two months later. They understood the problem. The implementation gap killed them anyway. https://haunted.lighthouse.co.im/articles/finance-runs-on-digital-infrastructure/ #CloudSovereignty #DigitalSovereignty #AWS #CloudResilience #InfoSec #Infrastructure #DataSovereignty #FinTech

The EU Commission just created something that didn't exist before: a way to actually measure digital sovereignty. Their new SEAL framework rates cloud providers 0–4. No US hyperscaler won a lead contract. €180M goes to OVHCloud, STACKIT, Scaleway, Proximus. The quiet part: SEAL-2 minimum means your provider can't be compelled by foreign law to hand over your data. Most winners hit SEAL-3 — immune to non-EU supply chain disruption. This is procurement policy, not rhetoric. It will cascade. https://commission.europa.eu/news-and-media/news/commission-advances-cloud-sovereignty-through-strategic-procurement-2026-04-17_en #DataSovereignty #SovereignCloud #EU #Privacy #FOSS
