"It traces how people entered, experienced, and left slavery, covering the little known story of slave revolts and the complex realities of enslaved people who themselves owned enslaved people."

- The Celebrants by Steven Rowley. A group of uni friends agree to give each other funerals while they're still alive after their friend dies. Really disappointed in this one. Characters were insufferable, and I didn't care about anyone other than the Jordans. #BookSky

- Husband of the Year by M.A. Wardell. A satisfactory end to the Teachers in Love, major improvement over the third one (which I hated), but not as good as the first two (I don't care about babies so). Would have enjoyed a triple wedding instead. Good series overall. #BookSky

- The Editor by Steven Rowley. A new (gay) writer's book catches the attention of Jaqueline Onassis, who forces him to deal with his own relationship with his mother. So much better than his Guncle books! #BookSky

- Fraternity by Andy Mientus. It's 1991. A queer secret society at a boarding school finds a book with dark magic, and things go wrong. Really enjoyed this one and hope Mientus writes more in the future when not acting. #BookSky

Diamond doesn’t romanticize traditional societies—after all, we are shocked by some of their practices—but he finds that their solutions to universal human problems such as child rearing, elder care, dispute resolution, risk, and physical fitness

Just finished reading The Intruders by Louise Jensen for my book club.
Ever have a book where you finished the book and go "thank goodness that's over"? Well, that's The Intruders for me. A shame, as I think it had some good ideas, but it was a bit too all over the place for me.

New at my blog, a review of Old Gods and Other Tales by Scott Oden!
Eleven stories spanning Sword & Sorcery, historical fantasy, and straight historical fiction. Action, overwhelming odds, and desperate last stands! Winner of the Robert E. Howard Foundation’s 2026 Costigan Award for Literary Achievement.
(As always, boosts are appreciated!)

I've realised it's been a while since I've shared my reading history. Sorry about that!
Golden Son by Pierce Brown - loved it. Really good!
They All Died Screaming by Kristopher Triana - I thought it was good horror if a bit too edgy, trying a bit too hard at times
Bat Eater by Kylie Lee Baker - I thought this one was absolutely incredible. Honestly just loved it to bits.

It is jarring to read to how Jean - Jacques Rousseau writes about inequality, its consequences for the psychological wellbeing of humans in his philosophical writings; and then on the other hand, sends his own five biological children to an orphanage to be brought up.

Just finished When The Cranes Fly South by Lisa Ridzén.
Absolutely phenomenal book, I wish I could give it 6/5.

Finished Two Can Play by Ali Hazelwood. It's a fun, cute romance romp based around videogame designers.
I had a lot of fun with this one, and as it is a novella it was a very quick read. I enjoyed the romance between the two, I enjoyed the videogame references.
I did find some of the descriptions to be a bit... medical. Like there was a part where the FMC touches the MMC's "sternum" - just say touch his chest.

Finished Mort by Terry Pratchett today.
I enjoyed the book, thought it was good! It really needed more Death - he was such a stand out character!
The book is full of funny and intelligent quips! I found the pacing of the plot to be a bit all over the place, though.

A travel book. In the steamy globe-trotting romance novel, Flicka's LOVERS, Flicka travels to Japan, China, Thailand, Paris, Germany, Los Angeles, and Vancouver. She gets around other places, too.
