Help me find a book? It's a YA/kids book probably published late 80s-mid 90s. As I remember (could be very wrong!) there is a young girl called called Nest(?) [ETA, actually, maybe she was called Wren? Or Lark??] who can see "demons" - imps? Possibly from the future, where the world has kind of ended (she may have a "pet" imp?!)? Maybe the imps eat energy - I think the future is very grey? A man - the other central character - comes to town, who is plagued of visions of this future, and is trying to change events so this future doesn't happen? I think Nest came from sort of a broken home (maybe adopted?? and apologies if broken home is no longer the best phrasing - very open to suggestions of other phrasing!), and he might have became sort or a father figure to her? I thought the author was a Terry - Brooks, or Goodkind, but looking at their FantasticFiction pages, I can't see anything that matches. Help me find this vague memory of a book from my childhood/early teens? Feel free to RT! #bookstodon #books #reading #amreading I know this is a very vague description full of maybes and mights! But it's a brain-itch that needs to be scratched! 😆

If you're tired of me talking about the Kickstarter, here's good news: it's ending soon. If it's the first time you see me talking about it, here's bad news: there's very little time left to jump in and get Sanguine Scenario in your preferred format! What am I reading? Nearly finished Matt Haig's 'How to Stop Time'. A bit similar to The Midnight Library, though a different story, with its flying about. Might try another of Matt's but am finding the wandering in place and time and prose a little tedious. Next to read: 'Death Do they Part' by Jonathan Whitelaw, 3rd in the Parker Sisters' (Cosy) Mystery series. Something lighter after Matt's tome. My own book 'A Question of Resistance' by Paul Smith, a time-slip novel is being reviewed by a book club in Northallerton & I am going to the club to answer questions and listen to their critique next week. 'Scared' doesn't do my trepidation justice! #Reading #AmReading #Novels #Books #TimeSlip

Just finished The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri (first book in the trilogy), which was a sprawling fantasy in the best way, while somehow mostly taking place in a tiny corner of one city (in the "present day"). Fantasy with its roots in South Asia, so very different from the usual. And the women are all complex and interesting characters (I kind of love Malini, she would totally vibe with the LotR movie scene with Galadriel and the ring*) I think @ansate@social.coop might have been the one to recommend it to me? If so, thank you! *"In place of a Dark Lord, you would have a queen! Not dark, but beautiful and terrible as the dawn! Treacherous as the sea! Stronger than the foundations of the earth! All shall love me, and despair!" #AmReading #Bookstodon

I do not remember which one of you lovelies said that they were reading "The Traveler" by Joseph Eckert but I bought the e-book yesterday and could not freaking put it down! I don't usually wish for books to be made into series or movies, because they change so much, but this thing was written and absolutely aches to be a movie at the very least. I've never seen such an inventive approach to time travel and... I'm gonna stop talking about it right there. I've already told two other people about it and I'm going to buy a paperback copy on bookshop dot org so I can reread it in paper and then lend it to them. 📖📖📖📚📚📚 #AmReading #Bookstodon

Latest read: "Convenience Store Woman" by Sayaka Murata. I loved this book. It's translated from Japanese, quite a short book about a young woman who is completely fulfilled by her work in a convenience store. She seems very autistic! A lot of sensory detail and descriptions of masking as she figures out how to seem normal. It's tonally very odd, seeming very quiet and almost cozy, and then boom, there's be something really disturbing. It ends a bit abruptly but that seemed in character, as it were. #booktooter #amreading #ActuallyAutistic

#3GoodThings Back from a long weekend trip—laundry done and jazz playing. A trip highlight was catching two films at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art: I Love Boosters and A Taste of Tea. Very different, but both surreal gems. Libby. It’s increased my contemporary fiction reading no end. #AmReading the very amusing Of Monsters and Mainframes by Barbara Truelove.
