Help me find a book?
It's a YA/kids book probably published late 80s-mid 90s.
As I remember (could be very wrong!) there is a young girl called called Nest(?) [ETA, actually, maybe she was called Wren? Or Lark??] who can see "demons" - imps? Possibly from the future, where the world has kind of ended (she may have a "pet" imp?!)? Maybe the imps eat energy - I think the future is very grey?
A man - the other central character - comes to town, who is plagued of visions of this future, and is trying to change events so this future doesn't happen?
I think Nest came from sort of a broken home (maybe adopted?? and apologies if broken home is no longer the best phrasing - very open to suggestions of other phrasing!), and he might have became sort or a father figure to her?
I thought the author was a Terry - Brooks, or Goodkind, but looking at their FantasticFiction pages, I can't see anything that matches.
Help me find this vague memory of a book from my childhood/early teens? Feel free to RT!
