Did you see the #Odyssey? The scene where the Laestrygonians decimate the crew (3,000 yo spoiler) uses forced perspective to make "giants" (like how they made "hobbits" in #LotR) 2.1 m/ 7 foot men in the background, a 1.4 m/ 4 foot 6 inch woman in the foreground, a small aperture, et voila: giants "Woman? You mean #MattDamon" No That's #DevynDalton, a Canadian stuntwoman, on the #movie's poster. Damon called her biceps "the greatest arms I have ever seen": https://youtu.be/HENeMPc8Qwc #cinema

Exploring Tolkien’s Legendarium: The Defeat of Sauron. How exactly did Gil-galad, Elendil and Isildur defeat the Dark Lord on the slopes of Mount Doom. A theory derived from multiple texts, despite Tolkien's ambiguity. https://www.containsmoderateperil.com/blog/2026/7/26/exploring-tolkiens-legendarium-the-defeat-of-sauron #lotro #lotr

I suggest that the racist #technology executives bought just the film they wanted. The PJ #LOTR is one of the racists' biggest sources of emotional validation. The racist casting, the script that emphasized the racism, the outsized attention given to an especially smarmy and insincere portrayal of the Elves--practically stripped of their aetherial and haunting qualities in order to be presented as action heroes--who are now among the favorite symbols of bigots who use the especially disgusting and slimy depiction of the Orcs in PJ LOTR as a handy proxy for their bigotry. And in the wake of those wretched movies? A thousand swindlers have come forth, eagerly seeking to goose up their high-tech swindles with a symbol stolen from Tolkien. "Palantir"? "Anduril"? And that ghastly #space mirror from Reflect Orbital is called "Earendil-1". (cont'd)

Sometimes we get pleasant surprises: Jackson's #LotR was one. Nolan's #Odyssey does not belong in that category. The trailers were appalling in every dimension. Nolan is hugely overrated & in his latest opus we see the standard markers of lazy contempt for the source work & culture. If you want to see a film about the #Odyssey, see The Return (2024) with Ralph Fiennes & Juliette Binoche. Aww, i'm watching a bit of the movie The Fellowship of the Ring trying to find a scene that I want a screenshot of and i just came to the scene where Arwen and Aragon are talking on a bridge in Rivendell and she pledges her love to him. She gives him her pendant and he says "You cannot give me this" to which she replies "It is mine to give to whom I wish". i only just now realized the significance of this scene. Elves do not wear wedding rings. They wear pendants as a sign of their marriages. By giving him that pendant she was proposing to him! #Tolkien #LOTR

RE: https://mastodon.social/@shire_reckoning/116840245576918999 One of my favorite accounts to follow. It posts the entire chronology of the Lord of the Rings on the day it happens in the novel each day. Today the cycle begins again from the beginning. Pull up a chair and follow along!
