Lo ha dichiarato il ministro degli Esteri norvegese, Espen Barth Eide, all'emittente pubblica Nrk, sottolineando che le argomentazioni a favore "si sono rafforzate ulteriormente perché la situazione in Cisgiordania è peggiorata ancora di più". AGI - Norway is considering a law that would ban trade with Israeli settlements in the West Bank with penalties of up to three years imprisonment.

This was stated by Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide on public broadcaster Nrk, noting that “the arguments in favor have further strengthened because the situation in the West Bank has deteriorated even more.”

The measure in other countries Oslo’s top diplomat added that "many other countries are now taking the same line." Last week the United Kingdom announced a broad sanctions package against the settlements in the West Bank and another 11 countries (Norway, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden) have expressed their intention to adopt or support similar measures.

The Israeli embassy’s response in Oslo was harsh and strongly criticized the possible measure, calling the proposal to “criminalize trade” an “example of the Norwegian Foreign Minister’s obsessive anti-Israel activism on the global stage.”

“Norway has repeatedly chosen to sacrifice its bilateral relations with Israel in favor of unilateral rhetoric and hostile actions that serve local interests, undermine efforts to achieve peaceful solutions and are completely detached from the reality of the Middle East,” reads a statement by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar.
