The queen’s burdensome past, for almost one Norwegian in four… AGI - Health problems, dangerous friendships, and a past full of lights and shadows. All factors that challenge her role in the eyes of the subjects. According to a poll released by the Dagbladet newspaper, 37.8% of Norwegians believe that Queen Mette-Marit is not suitable for the newly acquired role, compared to 35.8% who think the opposite. The Poll and Public Disquiet The study was conducted last August 31st, three days after the death of King Harald V, and involved 1,058 people. Doubts about the suitability of the consort queen are not a novelty in the Norwegian public debate. In a poll conducted last February for the same newspaper, the percentage of citizens who did not believe Mette-Marit was up to the throne rose to an astonishing 44%. The Friendship with Jeffrey Epstein Mette-Marit, 53 years old, has minimized public appearances in recent months due to the worsening of pulmonary fibrosis she has suffered since 2018, a condition that necessitated a lung transplant in June. However, attentive observers could not help but notice how her disappearance from public life coincided with a decidedly complex moment for the crown. At the same time, the queen was overwhelmed by the scandal regarding her friendships with American businessman Jeffrey Epstein, convicted of pedophilia. A burdensome relationship, for which the sovereign publicly apologized to the nation, but that does not represent the only crack in her image. The Trial Regarding Her Son Marius’ Abuse The reputation of the new queen has also been marked by the judicial affairs of her son Marius Borg Høiby, born from a previous relationship. The man was sentenced in June to four years imprisonment for two cases of sexual assault and abuse towards an ex-girlfriend. The sentence is not yet final as appeal has been presented. It should be noted that the doubts about the private life of the reigning monarch date back well before the judicial affairs of the young man: already in 2001, the marriage between Haakon and Mette-Marit was preceded by heated controversies regarding the turbulent past of the princess, who had given birth to Marius from a man subsequently convicted of drug trafficking. #Norwegian #Dagbladet #Norwegians #Mette-Marit #JeffreyEpstein #American #MariusBorgHøiby #Haakonhttps://www.agi.it/estero/news/2026-09-02/mette-marit-sondaggio-norvegesi-38831355/
