Hi All I'm taking a workshop about Nix shells on July 24th. Nix is one of the most impactful ecosystem in the history of software industry. No hype, these words won't even justify how the paradigm is fundamentally a game changer for tons of things from DevOps, system Administration, System state management, project management, IT devices management, clusters of devices, kubernetes, containers etc etc The best way to start with this ecosystem of cool paradigm is nix shells. #nix #nixshell

@Saorsa@neondystopia.world Recently came upon guixpkgs: https://fzakaria.com/2026/06/25/guixpkgs-every-guix-package-as-a-nix-flake So step by step we are closer to convergence of both systems where one can use any and end user can migrate with just 1 or few lines in their config❤️ Since both systems are a pure functional code, I think that characteristic itself made them easily portable/bridgeable/interoperable as language agnostic system. #nix #guix #nixos #guixos #Linux

And really sad to see many fall for this scam. Especially by leveraging unemployment fear, job security fear etc etc and using the word HR and meant to recruit.

Leveraging someone's #FOMO for their selfish reasons angers me to be honest 😑

Was just checking out some tvix talks, the tvix-store is certainly attractive with even the replit blog mentioning about 90% storage reduction in cache storage. Even devenv switched to tvix.

But I couldn't see any docs on how can I start using it in my nixos or atleast for nix shells, etc

Am I missing out something or any views on this would help me

@thibaultmol@en.osm.town I tried this back some months ago. But I'm not using it now though it's very good. Coz the UX I want is like to suggest the fix automatically after the failure in the prompt. And I can just press a key ro activate it or just ignore it. Of course it should be optional Just my personal UX expectation😅

@zekjur The cool thing about kiwix is that u can jjst serve that even from ur phone and all those connected in ur wifi network can access it. Useful for libraries, classroom etc etc U don't need internet all the time, only for updating. Pretty cool #kiwix

@jean_dupont@mastodon.social U don't have to ditch fish shell 😃. Nushell's external completion options let us use any completions as we like. Like carapace, fish or any custom completions. I use fish completions in nushell for some commands. Coz nushell completions are still not that good compared to fish as of now. #nushell #fish #shell #completions

@bryan@dusty.ninja After some real basic remote access use cases I tried tailscale for a while and after checking out netbird coz it felt more batteries included and more customisations through UI and of course it's fully self hostable and open source. But I still follow the release notes of tailscale on their new releases. #netbird #tailscale #WireGuard #vpn #SelfHosting #networking

Discord honestly is a good UI/UX for multi level chat organisations. I thought why we couldn't have something like that for matrix.

Then I discovered cinny, which is really cool. And now after using it for a while honestly it just clicked me that matrix way of organising really have true potential coz the method is better than discord.

In matrix everything is a room, so with that as building block we can have any type.

Club some rooms then, u have space, and u can have another space inside a space. It's just that good. This way any rooms in a space can be decoupled or just replicated to another space. This is really a cool potential IMO. This is really useful for organisations for teams and chat management. So I made a hook in my nushell config so that atuin and nushell both have the same history and so I can manage history using atuin in one place😁 Whoever's using atuin and nushell can benefit from this small hook in the config. Those people might be hungry for followers count , reach etc. Honestly, this is a better place to reach audience, coz of many instances & platforms from a single place. It really have that powerful potential. So typical algorithm driven platforms made them to think that higher impressions & followers, reach etc means actual growth. They are simply misguided by the habits from those bad algorithm driven platforms. #mastodom #fediverse
