Euforia Un poema en español. I don't know if I'll be writing an English version, so in the meantime here's a machine translation by Kagi Translate, which while not great, captures the content pretty well. In the dark days before,

So, I've been wanting to learn a second language in an official way. I say official, because I can read and understand German but only because I used to work for a German-based company and my co-workers would always email me in German. I still struggle to speak it, though. I think I now want to learn Spanish, but in a more official way. I'm just not sure what the best "official" way is. Now that I'm almost 60 years old, I'm not sure I really want to take a college class on the subject. There must be another way, right? #spanish #language

No. 46 in my photo collection of signs of unique Spanish-language business names ending in 𝗲𝗿í𝗮: DISQUERÍA Broadly, "disco" in Spanish means "disc" or "disk" in English, including specifically an audio/video disc, vinyl record, etc., with a "disquería" being a store selling such products. Note that the 𝗰 in "disco" has changed to 𝗾𝘂 in the process of adding the 𝗲𝗿í𝗮 suffix. In Spanish, as in English, a 𝗰 followed by an 𝗮, 𝗼, or 𝘂 has a hard "k" sound while a 𝗰 followed by an 𝗲 or 𝗶 has a soft "s" sound. The last letter of the root word is dropped before adding the 𝗲𝗿í𝗮 suffix, so in this case we'd end up with "discería." But this would cause the 𝗰 to undergo a change in pronunciation from a hard to soft sound. In Spanish, a word's original pronunciation must be maintained during conjugation or when adding a suffix, so the 𝗰 must be changed to 𝗾𝘂 to maintain a hard "k" sound, giving us "disquería."
