Hey! It's #fortnightFridayMusic & the cue is: #thunder Sometimes songs don't age badly, society does. Lyrically, they foresaw the future in this banger, probalby my favourite of theirs: TISM - Thunderbirds Are Coming Out Shot in one take, the video features 30 bands from the Melbourne scene in 1998 miming to this song. It's not only funny but also now a nostalgic snapshot. Of all the bands in this video,on #TISM and the Ringwood Secondary College Choir & Orchestra are the only two you could go and see play today. 🎶 I was my parents' puppet till my teenage years When I rebelled and swapped them for my peers I used to sit for hours all alone Without an opinion to call my own I had to keep this compulsion to myself This need to be like everybody else But now I'm out of the closet and I feel free 'Cos I just saw Thunderbirds on TV Sing if you're proud to be plastic now Thunderbirds are coming out Yes I've been outed and I'm so happy I've found a role model just for me I think I could be like those puppet guys 'cos there's less to them than meets the eye 🎶 @Bishopjoey@writing.exchange @dgar@aus.social @electric_gumball@mastodon.social  @stormygleason@hachyderm.io  @fc@universeodon.com #ausMusic 1/4

It's still #fortnightFridayMusic & the cue is: #thunder How do you make a world-wide hit? Plaguarise a children's song and add quirky lyrics about a place most people have never been: Men At Work Down Under "Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree" never sounded better: 🎶 Traveling in a fried-out Kombi On a hippie trail, head full of zombie I met a strange lady, she made me nervous She took me in and gave me breakfast And she said "Do you come from a land down under Where women glow and men plunder? Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover" Buyin' bread from a man in Brussels He was six-foot-four and full of muscle I said, "Do you speak-a my language?" He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich And he said "I come from a land down under Where beer does flow and men chunder Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover", yeah Lyin' in a den in Bombay With a slack jaw, and not much to say I said to the man, "Are you trying to tempt me? Hey it's  #alternateFridayMusic 🎉 with a cue of: What gets you energised? The songs of one of the worlds greatest song writers, Grant McLennan have energised my life since the late 80's. Grant died 20 years ago today. This is not his most energetic song but it is my favourite song that he crafted: The Go-Betweens  - Cattle and Cane https://youtu.be/HFf7Nat1Y1E For the music nerds, from the drummer, Lindy Morrison "Grant had written that song and [...] he wrote it in that time signature. It's a bar of five, then a bar of two, then a bar of four, so the phrase is eleven beats [...] but when you get to the chorus it goes to four-four.
