Smart glasses are going mainstream and our privacy laws haven't caught up. The privacy act barely covers individuals wearing them, surveillance rules are a messy state by state patchwork, and Meta is reportedly building "super sensor" glasses that can record even when you're not actively using them. Ich werde zunehmend blind. Deshalb betrachte ich Smart Glasses anders als Menschen, die problemlos sehen. Für mich ist eine Kamera mit KI nicht einfach ein lustiges Gadget. Sie kann Schrift lesen, Dinge erkennen oder mir Informationen geben, die meine Augen nicht mehr liefern. Darum werde ich sehr deutlich, wenn andere pauschal Verbote fordern: Über eine mögliche Assistenztechnik für behinderte Menschen darf man nicht reden, als wären wir in der Debatte unsichtbar. #Inklusion #Barrierefreiheit #SmartGlasses

Wer SmartGlasses wegen dem Datenschutz verbieten will, muss logisch auch autonome Autos verbieten. Beide nutzen Kameras und Sensoren, um ihre Umgebung zu erkennen. Wer das eine grundsätzlich ablehnt, kann das andere kaum gutheißen. Normalerweise spreche ich selten/nie Blockempfehlungen aus, aber nach einer Diskussion mit "SchreibeEinfach" (@SchreibeEinfach@23.social) habe ich mir mal seine Posts angesehen. Nicht nur instrumentalisiert er autistische Menschen, um es für ableistisch zu erklären, sich nicht ständig mit Smart Glasses filmen lassen zu wollen, er vergleicht die Sichtbarmachung dieser Brillen auch noch mit "Judenstern"-Armbinden im 3. On articles about #meta #smartglasses often "aaactually" style comments appear stating they are not so different from how photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson operated. Henri used one unconnected camera. Between an event & sharing it with the "world" existed a delaying proces of reflection. Smart glasses are just one component of a near realtime data harvesting, matching & sharing machine. The only thing they have in common with Henri is a physical lens. What people object to is not that.

Henri Cartier-Bresson used a bit of stealth photography to capture daily life but he wasn't trying to create a hidden surveillance device. He stayed within social norms of "visible photography". His talent was in anticipating human moments and choosing when to press the shutter. In that he was not that different from Ed van der Elsken who absolutely engaged with people. But with the same goal: to capture moments of daily life. #smartglasses are the polar opposite of this: always on, mindless.
