If is a necessary function, like aged care, public transport, education, roadways, electricity, water, health care etc etc etc Profit motive means profits are syphoned to owners not plowed back or used by authorities. Prices creep up and what was deceitfully sold as "more efficient" by corrupt politicians becomes minimum-effort, inefficient and after initial "competition" reverts back to a monopoly or a cartel. #privatization #privatisation #monopoly #diediedie

If there are externalities can I compensate for them? In my opinion, the #AntiAI crowd is actually doing the work for #Anthropic and I've wondered how much of the rhetoric is pushed by them. Anthropic's business model is to make everyone afraid of #LLM #technology in order to regulate their #monopoly. The biggest threat to humanity is that the technology is controlled by the top of the K-shaped economy. So, real AI education is fighting the megacorps. 19/

Now that I'm on the topic of food products. I recently came across two go-to products that just went through bullshit ingredient changes to increase profits due to corporate monopoly buy outs. Just more products I won't purchase anymore. Cholula, which was bought out by McCormick & Company, took out the Vinegar and replaced it with synthetic Acetic Acid and "Natural Flavoring". Annies, which was just bought by General Mills, just took out dried butter and nonfat milk from their mac n cheese and replaced it with cornstarch and "Natural Flavoring". Seems like pretty much every product on the market has Natural Flavoring at this point - a perfect way to maximize profits and pass off shitty ingredients to the consumer without them noticing. #food #grocery #monopoly

At the core of #AndroidDeveloperVerification are a couple potentially useful ideas. #Google has entirely wrapped them in a pile of anti-competitive garbage designed to defend their massive #monopoly profit margins, but nonetheless, those specific technical ideas might still be useful. #iOS's "notarization" is basically the same. That leads me to ask the key question: What would a #FOSS-respecting system of #verification look like? What #identity info is useful for trusting the #developer?

Originally called “the Landlord Game”, it was invented in 1903 by left-wing feminist Lizzie Magie who wanted to expose how rentier capitalism works through a game. She more than succeeded but - this being capitalist US - never got the credit for it. Google has announced plans to invest up to $40 billion in Anthropic, the developer of Claude AI. The previous record was $13 billion from Microsoft into OpenAI. Amazon had already given Anthropic $4 billion. Three tech giants are now financially tied to the three leaders of the frontier AI race. Independent players at this level have effectively disappeared. Computing power is controlled by the same cloud providers. Training data flows from platforms owned by the same corporations. Talent is recruited by whoever has the deepest pockets. This is not competition. This is structural monopoly. Anthropic markets itself as a safety-first AI lab with Constitutional AI. The question remains: who writes the constitution? A private company now dependent on Google and Amazon. Corporate oversight of "safe AI" is not neutral academic process. It is the definition of allowable knowledge through the lens of business interests. When you talk to Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini, your conversations are stored on corporate servers. Official reason: improving models. Default setting: data collection. You can opt out if you find the buried setting. Most users never will. The alternative is not utopian. Open models like Meta LLaMA 4 and Mistral AI can run locally on your own hardware. Ollama and LM Studio provide one-command installation. Local AI means no data collection. No corporate control. No surveillance. Frontier models are more capable. But for most daily tasks, open models are sufficient. The question is not technical. It is structural.
