This sounds familiar. "PlayStation is forcing its players into purchasing video games exclusively from its online marketplace, the PlayStation Store, players who filed lawsuits said. Sony benefits from that, according to the lawsuits, because it’s able to take a 30-percent cut of its sales, with little fear of other retailers undercutting their prices." Been away a bit (nixos2 drama, more about that soon), but the Paramount-Warner Bros. saga kept moving without me: EU cleared it with conditions, then Paramount agreed to freeze the whole deal until a trial happens — maybe not until June 2027. Both sides are calling it a win. Let's see why. https://blog.ppb1701.com/deep-freeze #streaming #paramount #warnerbros #antitrust #consolidation #streamingwars #mediaconsolidation #blog

"After eight years of litigation, Europe’s highest court has dismissed Google’s appeal, upholding the European Commission’s finding that Google used its control over Android to make its own search engine harder to avoid. But while that legal battle focused on contracts and market dominance, Google is now looking to shape how trust is established across the Android ecosystem. On July 2, the Court of Justice of the European Union delivered its final judgment in the Google Android antitrust case. The ruling made the penalty imposed by the General Court definitive. One of the most consequential technology competition disputes of the past decade, the case examined whether Google broke the law by using contractual restrictions, including anti-forking agreements, revenue-sharing arrangements, and tying practices, to preserve its dominance over the Android ecosystem and mobile search. The Court dismissed Google's appeal. Yet over these same eight years, Google has shifted how it maintains gatekeeper control. The latest iteration is the company's developer verification system: starting in September 2026, developers worldwide who wish to distribute apps to certified Android devices will be required to agree to it." https://www.techpolicy.press/google-android-antitrust-ruling-shows-the-next-battle-is-over-who-controls-trust/ #Google #EU #Android #Antitrust #Oligopolies #BigTech

Paramount CEO David Ellison is a billionaire who supports Donald Trump. When David Ellison gained control of CBS, CBS started slanting its news broadcasts in a pro-Trump way. Now there is a threat of David Ellison perverting news on CNN in the same way. This is why "Paramount’s proposed deal with Warner Bros. reveals that the merger is in a shaky position" is a very good thing for people who want news we can trust: https://prospect.org/2026/07/22/why-paramount-should-be-worried-warner-bros-merger-ellison/ #MediaBias #antitrust copy: @renewedresistance@channel.org #politics

The DOJ cleared Paramount-WBD with zero conditions in June. Turns out career staff wanted to sue and got overruled before they could say so. Now 12 states just sued anyway — and Oregon wants to know if Paramount helped write the DOJ's own clearance letter. https://blog.ppb1701.com/the-other-states-have-entered-the-chat #streaming #paramount #warnerbros #consolidation #streamingwars #mediaconsolidation #antitrust #blog

The New Republic | The Important Missing Word That Discredits the Centrists’ New Letter by Michael Tomasky AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. In his piece, Michael Tomasky criticizes a recent letter from moderate Democrat Tom Suozzi and fourteen colleagues that lauds capitalism while conspicuously omitting the single word that undercuts their rhetoric—“monopoly.” He argues that monopoly, not democratic socialists or the government, is the chief threat to genuine competition and that centrist Democrats must confront it if they hope to unite with the increasingly left‑leaning base of the party. Citing rising economic inequality (the U.S. Gini now at 42), the surge of self‑identified democratic socialists, and poll data showing progressives now outnumber moderates, Tomasky urges the party to adopt clear policy commitments—higher taxes on the rich, a solvable Social Security, an $18‑minimum‑wage indexed to inflation, a permanent child‑tax credit, and robust antitrust action—so that Democrats can fight the billionaire “Epstein” class, restore competition, and avoid electoral defeat in 2028. #Google #Android #Antitrust #BigTech #SovranitàDigitale #EuropaFederale #Volt #VoltItalia #VoltEuropa

Apollo, BlackRock Deny Asking Kirkland To Abandon Optimum
By Tracey Read – March 27, 2026, 3:40 PM EDT

Apollo, Ares, BlackRock and other major financial firms have denied the allegations made by Optimum Communications. Optimum claims the firms “bully‑ed” the law firm Kirkland & Ellis LLP into withdrawing as its transaction counsel in a telecommunications deal, seeking retaliation for a separate collusion lawsuit that Optimum filed in a New York federal court.

The dispute centers on whether the financial firms improperly pressured Kirkland & Ellis to step aside, thereby influencing the outcome of Optimum’s transaction and undermining its legal strategy. Optimum argues this conduct was meant to punish the company for its antitrust claims, while the defendants assert that no such coercion occurred. The case highlights ongoing tensions between large financiers and corporate counsel in high‑stakes litigation.
