whilst i came up with an entirely different outcome [i would never ever choose the windoze of penguins, ugh, & i am not a gamer, so care nada about any of that associated crap], some of his thinking matches mine https://www.howtogeek.com/after-5-years-of-using-arch-linux-i-quit/ though i still have :archlinux: installed on my main pooter's sda, & whilst it is still very reliable for me, the friction from the routine maintenance [he listed some of the items / actions, but there's others too] has been a bit of a drag for me for some years now, plus the ongoing #AUR attacks necessitate a perpetually heightened defensive posture that's tiring, & to which i chose eventually to respond to by replacing most of my AUR pkgs with #flatpak or #distrobox ones, or in several cases nothing at all [ie, i chose to just abandon some apps altogether]. so for a couple of months now [after more than a year in various VMs], my delightful daily penguin is the immutable atomic alpha :kde: :linux:, on sdc. it is really pleasant to use, albeit ofc i needed to adjust several of my workflows to accommodate its RO base. my sdb remains largely empty atm, but once it reaches Beta i hope to install :opensuse: kalpa here unfortunately my old 2011 Dell xps-15 lappy is "stuck" with Arch, coz it only has bios not uefi boot, which eliminates both of those atomics, alas #DropbearPooterising #Linux #LinuxWomen #FOSS:kde: :linux:#KDELinux | :archlinux: :kde: :plasma:#ArchLinux #KDEPlasma:opensuse:#Kalpa | :debian:#SparkyLinux | :fedora:#Kinoite:firefox_nightly:#FirefoxNightly #FirefoxSecondSidebar #NativeTreeTabs

tis evil shit like this that only reinforces my determination never to run an unhardened profile as my main browser, eg for years i have Service Workers disabled via my user.js, & javascript disabled globally in my uBlockOrigin advanced settings, allowed only on a per-site manual basis https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/malicious-sites-use-javascript-to-build-malware-in-browser-memory/ sigh, so many bastards about 🥺 PS-1: all you chrome / chromium users, now without uBO; what on earth are you thinking? 🤷🙄🤦‍♀️ PS-2: i know this article pertains to attacks on silly crypto-shitheads, but i'm looking at the larger picture; the same attack vector could be applied more broadly, not just for those karmic victims, ha! #DropbearPooterising #LinuxWomen:firefox_nightly:#FirefoxNightly #browsers #userJS #uBlockOrigin

for mega-yonks i have avidly followed heapsa #linux hashtags [as a linux user & enjoyer] plus various #bsd tags [as someone somewhat bsd-curious but quite overwhelmed by it conceptually & practically]. am now thinking of unfollowing said bsd tags, coz seeing all the posts from all the clever peeps using it with all their incomprehensible commands & concepts, rather than inspiring me is kinda sorta more demoralising & overwhelming me also, there's just no point me ignoring the fact that i bloody well love using my various linux systems, & hafta be honest with myself that the chances of me ever seriously embarking on learning then using another paradigm now are pretty damn slender so, unfollowing said bsd tags seems logical & pragmatic and yet... ...it also feels cowardly & lazy ergo ever more i continue walking around in an endless circle on a cold distant planet, locked in a logic loop, the very robot of which asimov wrote #DropbearPooterising #Linux #LinuxWomen #FOSS:kde: :linux:#KDELinux | :archlinux: :kde: :plasma:#ArchLinux #KDEPlasma:debian:#SparkyLinux | :opensuse:#Kalpa | :fedora:#Kinoite

@linuxiac@mastodon.social @mozilla@mastodon.social you & many other tech sites are pushing this line, also Mozilla themselves, about the "new" native #Containers. it's totes blowing my mind. i have been using this already for the last year at least, sans AO, in my :firefox_nightly: and :firefox:, & so simply cannot understand how anyone can now call it "new" 🤷😮🤯. user_pref("privacy.userContext.enabled", true); user_pref("privacy.userContext.newTabContainerOnLeftClick.enabled", true); user_pref("privacy.userContext.ui.enabled", true); These reports seem rather misleading afaict. cc: @firefoxnightly@mastodon.social #userJS #firefox #firefoxnightly #dropbearpooterising #linuxwomen

have set myself a little project to move away from #bookmarks [& thus all the mega-complex BM folder trees i have constructed over the decades to logically store them] to #tags in my :firefox_nightly:. is quite tricky to conceive the logistics of managing this paradigm conversion. @Tooden@aus.social well, bummeris not she who died, but alas the usb port into which i had plugged her, that has died#lappy is a 2011 dell xps15, originally running win7. was my sole pooter when in dec 2013 i discovered linux, & began exploring it via several virtualbox VMs. fully converted her to linux a coupla years later. sadly a coupla years after that, i cleverly spilled my mugga hot green tea over her keyboard, & she's never been the same since... multiple keys malfunction, hdmi port died, now i find it's not just one of her usb ports that's died, it's actually two, so only one good one left... meaning to use my usb headset i have to unplug #mousie, & vice versa. seems afaict lappy is slowly, surely, doing a black knight at me... she's been only my secondary pooter since 2015, when i treated myself to a big fat tower for all my penguins. even so, it'd be quite nice if her bits would stop with this dying malarkey #dropbearpooterising #linuxwomen

question to strayan users of browsers with #DRM removed or disabled... how do you manage #streaming? do you, eg, never watch abc #iView or sbs #OnDemand? i use hardened profiles in my :firefox_nightly:, as i value security & privacy, but otoh i always leave drm enabled, coz i am not interested in cutting off my nose to spite my face so, pls tell me how you manage streaminig, coz atm i just don't understand, ta #dropbearpooterising #dropbearinterwebz #linuxwomen

every now & then i curiously toggle privacy.resistFingerprinting on in about:config, then despairingly off again about 42 seconds later. though unhappy about it i could prolly make myself get used to it buggering my desired window size, & possibly even it buggering my indicated timezone [i do understand the privacy logic of both]. however i simply cannot abide it forcing all sites into light mode -- it is very uncomfy during days, but unbearably painful at nights. why oh why, mozilla, can't you consider this basic accessibility issue? #firefox #fingerprinting #accessibility #privacyresistFingerprinting #dropbearpooterising #dropbearinterwebz #linuxwomen

i first discovered linux in dec 2013, & sometime possibly in 2014, otherwise 2015, i learned there was some niche distro called h/m. i never bothered actually trying it, coz wtaf, but that was the first time i learned, vaguely, there was some pop culture character called h/m. i knew nothing about it, & still do not. i suspect that for h/m fans though, learning of h/m herself only sometime after learning of this thing called linux, then later again of the actual distro, is prolly not the usual sequence 🤪 #linuxwomen RE: https://mastodon.social/users/linuxiac/statuses/116869212906580400

for the whole life of the :firefox: fork :floorp: i have been intrigued by it & very frequently browser-hopped back & forth twixt :firefox_nightly: and :floorp: . today, with the advent of v12.13.0 i have done another hop, not only but primarily to enjoy the better #SplitView capability compared to :firefox_nightly: ... up to 4 tabs can be split, & we can choose vertical, horizontal, or grid split layout. #DropbearPooterising #LinuxWomen
