I hope your temps dropped as expected. Here in AB we're suffering along the the edge of the larger #HeatDome in the US. Hellishly hot AND humid days with frequent high probability of tornado-spawning storms many nights. 😱
Thankfully family allowed me to have a portable AC from an elder who passed earlier in the year, so I am able to maintain my bedroom at manageable levels of heat (still above my personal sleep sweet-spot of 14°C but waaaaaaayyyyy better than 28° or higher!).
Normally it's not especially humid here. I just discovered HOW humid (in practical terms) it is when I was trending low on blood sugars and grabbed the tin of hard candies I sometimes have for that.
THE POWDERED SUGAR HAS MELTED INTO AN AMAZINGLY EFFECTIVE ADHESIVE! 😳😳😳
For a minute, I thought I was going to need a literal can opener to get to the contents! 😱

The #smoke is spreading so widely because the same #HeatDome that has led to brutally high temperatures in the #Midwest & the #Northeast has trapped the smoke close to the ground. By the weekend, as another weather system pushes the hottest #air away, the #heat & the smoke are expected to ease in the Northeast, forecasters said. But closer to the #wildfires, the smoke is likely to linger longer.

Meanwhile, Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting 2026 to be one of the hottest years on record. Ontario and Quebec are currently roasting under a #heatdome.
PM Carney "also admitted that in prioritizing oil production, Canada is moving further away from achieving its climate targets and that emissions would likely be higher than forecasted."

Having worked in renewables, thinking about solar panel efficiency in the face of deadly #heatdome.
Ideal temp for optimal efficiency /output is 25°C or 77°F. Noticeable efficiency losses happen above 35°C (95°F).
ALL forms of energy production are stressed at these temps overtake the planet. = $$$.
High pressure lowers wind output.
Nuclear plants need cool H20.
Each rise in °C above ambient 37 °C needed in a gas plant = 1.47 MW loss in output.

We have friends in Delhi, and they were very worried about us here at the weekend because of the heat, and now they’re sending us ceiling fans (the best ones), which have always served them well, and I’m grateful to have friends like that who know how to cope with such temperatures, because everyone here is at their wits’ end.

🇪🇸🇵🇹 Spanien & Portugal: Temperatur könnte Werte zwischen 44 und 46°C erreichen.
🇫🇷 Frankreich: Im Südwesten liegt wieder das Zentrum dieser neuen Hitzewelle. Temperaturen zwischen 43 und 45°C erwartet.
🇩🇪 Deutschland: Locker wieder 38 bis 41°C.
🇬🇧 Großbritannien: Auch über England rollt die Hitzewelle mit 34 bis 37°C hinweg.
Europa brutzelt doppelt so schnell wie der globale Durchschnitt. Die erste Hitzewelle war nur der Auftakt.
