For those of you in the smoky areas of the US and Canada: I just learned from another post that you should check your AC if you have a window air conditioner. It should be on "recirculate" mode, so that it is recirculating air already within your house instead of pulling air from outside. If it doesn't have a recirculate mode and it's pulling air in from outside, turn it off to keep the smoke out. Central air conditioning systems always recirculate, so if you have that, you don't need to worry about it. #WildfireSmoke #AirConditioning

3 days during Maryland heat dome event. HVAC used 41kWh + 15kWh, so 56kWh with heat pumps keeping the house at 75f. My personal data center used 78kWh 😆 But it was all solar powered....and my neighbors too! #solar #heatdome #renewables #hvac #airconditioning #energy

After last week’s #heatwave in the UK, there has been a lot of talk over whether #AirConditioning is going to be required in domestic homes to make life bearable going forward. While I realise that for some this may have become a health necessity and they need to urgently make their homes safe…but for most this is about comfort. We need to as a country consider the options, learning from hotter countries that manage heat well, rather than all going for the most energy intensive option…

UK Scam alert, con artists using climate change for profit. My elderly parents have just suffered through a heatwave in the UK. As a Kiwi I swear by heat pumps. I have been urging them to get one for years now. Finally they might be listening. But then... "From Mum: Is this an alternative to buying expensive air"conditioning?" Oh good god, think, where does the heat go to?!?! https://specsurge.com/lp_gsaegu_uk_6_22_26/ #Scam #ClimateChange #AirConditioning

So, even though air_conditioning tag has been existed for a while, it started got promoted now, due to the heatwave currently hitting western Europe. "yes", "no" and possibly "limited" are the current mainly used values, and I guess further wiki improvements will come to make the documentation clear now that the key is being used a lot. Reminder that even if a store has a sign of air conditioning outside, maybe try and verify it by entering to see how strong it is. Even though many stores will have it, it may not be strong enough to feel the difference from outside. Usually the supermarket ones are the pretty strong ones, which can make you catch cold when you enter with sweat... #OpenStreetMap #OSM #A/C #airconditioning

Renting in Germany means no split AC bolted to the facade, so my top-floor 1970s office got the consolation prize: a single-hose "monoblock" portable. Plot twist: the compressor was never the problem. The window was. These things leak most of their cooling back in through the unsealed hole the exhaust hose runs through. My fix: a cheap XPS panel clamped under the roller blind, hose port sealed with rubber tape. No glue, no marks, comes out when summer ends. Dropped the room 6 to 7 °C in 45 minutes.
