De dépenser 40 milliards de dollars pour construire un pipeline et de continuer avec les combustibles fossiles, on ne s’en va pas dans la bonne direction, alors que le Canada brûle et qu’il y a de plus en plus d’événements météorologiques extrêmes. New research confirms what frontline workers have known for decades: higher-risk drinking by men is directly linked to intimate partner violence over time. The researchers are calling for policy change, but policy change means shifting money from punishment to prevention. So what happens? The same cycle. More policing, more courts, more prisons, more remand. Alcohol treatment? Underfunded. Public housing for victims fleeing violence? Waiting lists. Men's behaviour change programs? Gutted. Elizabeth Young, whose daughter Jade was killed in the Bondi Junction attack, says the system 'killed' her. The NSW government says it accepts 11 of 13 coronial recommendations 'in full' and two 'in principle'. But mental health groups and the victim's mother say the government is withholding a key report on mental health funding gaps and has committed to no concrete action. Pramudie Gunaratne from the Australian Society of Psychiatrists calls it a 'ticking time bomb'. Minister Rose Jackson says they're 'rolling out different programs' and will release the gap analysis, but when? AIPAC has spent $60M so far to prop up Haley Stevens, who is outspending Dr. Abdul El Sayed 12 to 1, and she’s down 16 points.
