#Delhi #India Meteorologists note that shifting monsoon patterns, driven by broader global climate changes, are resulting in shorter, significantly more intense bursts of rainfall. Instead of precipitation being distributed evenly across the season, cities are increasingly hit by concentrated deluges that existing stormwater systems were never designed to handle https://streamlinefeed.co.ke/news/delhi-monsoon-heavy-rainfall-waterlogging-july-2026 #ClimateChange #UpheavalClimate #ClimateReversal #MassAtrocity #pollution #ecology #environment #climate

#India is witnessing a huge #student protest at it's capital #Delhi. Their demand is the resignation of the education minister, for his incompetence in managing his ministry, with the medical entrance exams having to be repeated due to question paper leak and 12th std exams paper valuation got into a doll drums owing to stupid changes to the valuation method. The #Modi government however is brutally suppressing the student protest using #police and even local thugs in pseudo police uniforms. This #cartoon is a nice depiction of what is going on.

Something I was thinking about when I attended the Trans Bill protests… The whole point of a protest is to get the attention of those in power, possibly by disrupting their “business as usual”. But protest in #Delhi, the center of power in #India, has been limited to the little cage of an area near Jantar Mantar. The cage is made up of police barricades and under heavy surveillance. During protests, it is surrounded by police, ostensibly to “protect” the protestors. But - and this should be apparent to anyone with half a brain cell - what it really is is a means of cramming protestors into a position where it is easiest to suppress them. If we can’t protest in front of government officials - and yes, that includes the fucking Parliament - then we don’t have a right to protest. If protests can only take place in a little chicken cage, conveniently distanced from the politician’s eyes and ears, we don’t have the right to protest. If we need the permission of courts or the police to protest, we don’t have the right to protest. And if we don’t have the right to protest, we don’t. have. a. democracy.

😴 #Indien #Urban #Photography #Fotografie #India #streetphotography

We had a Prav mini meetup in #Delhi yesterday featuring @badrihippo@fosstodon.org, @ravi@toot.io, @kishy@merveilles.town, and @disaster2life@pleroma.debian.social We worked on getting Prav's financial records organised in a single place, so we can refer to it easily. This will make work easier for the Treasury Team and also enable greater transparency in our reporting Our original meeting place, Chaayos in Connaught Place, turned out to be too crowded. We instead sat at Andhra Canteen for a couple of hours to kick off the session After an ice cream break, we went to Café Coffee Day but they were not welcoming and wanted us to order more just for the privilege of sitting down. So we left the place and wrapped up at the bench outside in the infamous Delhi heat Note to self: bring fully charged laptops next time! #Prav #PravMiniMeetup #XMPP #FreeSoftware #Ledger

We have friends in Delhi, and they were very worried about us here at the weekend because of the heat, and now they’re sending us ceiling fans (the best ones), which have always served them well, and I’m grateful to have friends like that who know how to cope with such temperatures, because everyone here is at their wits’ end. #Delhi #Berlin #Hitze #HeatDome #ClimateDiary

Times of India | With 4th hike in 11 days, petrol crosses Rs 100 a litre in capital AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. Petrol prices in Delhi surpassed the Rs 100‑per‑litre mark on Monday after state‑run oil firms implemented a fourth retail‑fuel hike within 11 days, raising the price by Rs 2.61 to Rs 102.12 per litre, while diesel climbed to Rs 95.20. The cumulative increase now stands at Rs 7.35 for petrol and Rs 7.53 for diesel, with the government estimating daily under‑recoveries on fuel and LPG at just under Rs 600 crore and hinting at possible further hikes. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman defended the move as a market‑driven response to soaring global crude prices, noting that earlier tax cuts had saved consumers about Rs 1 lakh crore annually. Prices vary across states: Mumbai’s petrol is Rs 111.21, Chennai’s Rs 107.77, and Kolkata’s Rs 113.51 per litre. Joint Secretary Sujata Sharma of the petroleum ministry said global crude price spikes have hit India less severely—petrol up 7.7 % and diesel 8.6 % versus 22 % and 27 % globally—but the state‑run companies were still losing roughly Rs 600 crore a day, down from about Rs 1,000 crore before the recent hikes. Times of India | Delhi govt tightens noose for fuel supply: Businesses to get LPG only if they apply for PNG connection Delhi's commercial LPG supply now requires users to register for piped natural gas (PNG) where available, or declare intent to switch. Oil marketing companies will verify these applications, sharing data with IGL. Businesses needing both can seek exemptions, ensuring compliance with the government's push for PNG adoption.
