Got call from the county to ask some questions about pre-screening and about this study, and sounds like they will probably be likely to select us for this (specifically, the gas dryer). 9-12 months of operating as is, and then swap to an efficient electric dryer (which they will pay for) at 12 months and then another 9-12 months of air quality monitoring. #airquality

Home inspection (contractor for the county) happened, they took photos of all the air conditioning registers, inside of the air conditioning ducts upstairs and downstairs (from a register), checked the temperature of the dryer, measured all the windows, took a photo of the heater/AC, attic, water heater, stove, and asked for the electric and gas bills. Apparently they now look at all the info and figure out if we quality and for what (probably just the dryer), but it sounds like maybe they also will do duct sealing (dunno, they suggested that is something they do but was not 100% on it). They only replace appliances within the envelope of the house and not in the garage (ie, natural gas heater does not qualify). It sounds like (unsurprisingly) I've got most of the items they look at already done, they were saying the last few houses they checked had zero (0), i.e. NO attic insulation (!!!!) (glad I got that fan installed yesterday to avoid any questions about that if I added it later... they don't want you making major changes within the study period) #airquality

Hot day today. I went out for a bike ride this morning before it got it really hot, but returned almost immediately because it didn't seem healthy to cycle with the awful air quality. There's a wild fire in the south of the Netherlands and the smoke had come all the way to Assen. This afternoon the wind had turned and I took parcels to the post office. By that time I didn't really want to cycle any further due to the 33 C temperature. I'll try to ride a bit further this evening when it cools off a bit. Climate change has an affect on the most environmentally friendly form of transport.
