The #climatecrisis is already showing up in our shopping baskets. Extreme heat, floods and droughts are making food harder to grow and more expensive to buy. Meanwhile, the world’s wealthiest polluters keep making billions. #TaxTheSuperRich #MakePollutersPay #extremeweather

Smoke knows no borders. Thousands of people, especially Indigenous communities are forced to evacuate while their homes burned to the ground. We are witnessing a global ecological shift. Climate-driven fire seasons are increasingly common occurrences. We are in a global climate emergency! #ExtremeWeather https://act.gp/4z5oGfd

Europe's nuclear power is increasingly failing amid rising heat and droughts. France’s nuclear fleet has already seen a record number of heat-related outages this summer. Low river Danube waters forced Romania to shut both its nuclear reactors. Hungary is next. Isn’t it time they switch to wind and solar already? https://news.sky.com/story/hungary-to-shut-down-sole-nuclear-power-plant-as-danube-falls-to-record-low-13569304 #wind #solar #renewables #extremeweather #climate #heatwave #drought

"Three Lions Die at Zoo in Tokyo; Autopsies Indicate Deaths Caused by Heatstroke" Autopsies revealed that all three suffered from dehydration and multiple organ failure, and the cause of all the deaths is believed to be heatstroke. Three additional lions remain in poor health and are undergoing treatment. https://japannews.yomiuri.co.jp/society/general-news/20260803-341599/ #ClimateCrisis #Heatwaves #Wildfires #ExtremeWeather #NoPipelines #Tokyo #Japan #Kokusho #KokushoBi

2 #firefighters have died in a #wildfire that broke out Wednesday on the southern Greek island of #Crete, the fire department said. The 2 were among >50 firefighters battling a wildfire in the region of Rethymno in Crete that broke out Wednesday afternoon. “They fell heroically in the line of duty to protect the lives & property of citizens & the natural environment,” the department said in a written statement. #wildfires #ClimateChange #ExtremeWeather #ClimateCrisis https://apnews.com/live/europe-extreme-weather-wildfires-heat-updates-07-29-2026#0000019f-ae55-d8f1-ad9f-fef5a26e0000

#Europe’s Summer of Reckoning Is ‘Just the Beginning’ The continent is experiencing some of its biggest #wildfires & highest temperatures ever. Residents are fleeing, leaders are struggling to respond & “it will get worse,” one #climate expert said. #ClimateChange #ExtremeWeather #ClimateCrisis https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/29/world/europe/summer-heat-wave-fires-climate-change.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share

The #wildfires threatening central #Spain & southwestern #France over the past 2 weeks may be small by American standards. In #Europe, though, they are tremendous. Some are the largest in their countries’ modern histories, raging in places not accustomed to fires of this scale: on the outskirts of Madrid, for instance, or near the ancient vineyards of Bordeaux. #ClimateChange #ExtremeWeather #ClimateCrisis

Firefighters have been struggling to contain the #wildfires before another #heatwave descends on the region today, with temperatures soaring to 104°F (40°C). Last month was the hottest June on record in Western #Europe, & #climate experts say the continent can expect even higher temperatures in the future. The heat dries vegetation, making it more susceptible to fire. (It also exhausts firefighters.) #ClimateChange #ExtremeWeather #ClimateCrisis

Ravenous #wildfires. Searing #heatwaves. Freakish #storms. The summer of 2026 has already shattered meteorological records in several European countries. On a continent that has weathered centuries of upheaval — ruinous wars, deadly pandemics — it is the weather itself that now has #Europe feeling close to a breaking point. #ClimateChange #ExtremeWeather #ClimateCrisis

#Europe is ground zero when it comes to impacts” from #ClimateChange, said Johan Rockström, a Swedish scientist who is the director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany. “2026 is just the beginning,” Professor Rockström added. “It will inevitably get worse. It will get worse and worse and worse to the point where, I’m afraid, we’ll be passing the limits of adaptation.” #ExtremeWeather #ClimateCrisis

#Europe is not alone, of course. #Heatwaves gripped #Australia & #Japan this year. #Floods devastated #Kenya & #Angola. A snowstorm paralyzed the Eastern #UnitedStates. Developing countries in the Southern Hemisphere are still more vulnerable than wealthy Europe to the effects of a changing climate. #ClimateChange #ExtremeWeather #ClimateCrisis

Yet no other continent has warmed as rapidly as #Europe, at nearly twice the global average since the mid-1990s. That has forced Europeans to confront, more starkly than others, the harsh realities of a changed climate, particularly in the summer, when their once-mild days have given way to furnacelike heat. #ClimateChange #ExtremeWeather #ClimateCrisis

How to help your garden withstand #ClimateChange #HealthySoils and diverse, perennial plants can help your garden beds survive #ExtremeWeather like #floods and #droughts. March 13, 2026 "The days are getting longer, and spring is around the corner. For many home gardeners, it’s a time of hope and anticipation. "So it’s the perfect time to plan how to help your flower beds thrive as climate change brings more extreme and unpredictable weather. "Marsden: 'Flooding, droughts, heat, cold, all the extreme weather we’re seeing is going to impact plants.' "That’s Christy Marsden of the University of Minnesota #ClimateAdaptation Partnership. "She says one of the most important things you can do is get your soil tested and then take steps to improve your soil health – for example, by adding #compost. Healthier soil retains more water during droughts, and it’s less likely to erode during heavy storms. "Marsden also suggests growing a wider mix of flowers than you might have grown before, with varieties that thrive in a range of conditions. "And she recommends relying more on perennial plants, which come back every year, and less on annuals. Marsden: “Perennials are more able to withstand some of those extremes because they have deeper roots. They’re more established.” "So while climate change is a challenge, she says by being flexible and trying new things, you can still grow a beautiful garden in a warming world."
